Got my cdl back in September of last year but for reasons out of my control haven't been able to use it yet.
Wanted to ask did anyone else used to get somewhat exhausted learning to drive stick not so much from the physical aspect of it but from mentally having to focus so hard on not screwing up? I remember I used to break out in a sweat most every time after about 15-20 minutes on the road just from focusing so hard on all the clutching and trying not to screw up in front of my trainer.
Does this tiring effect go away once you become a pro at shifting? Anyone else have this issue when first learning?
It's actually making me want to start out with an auto shift company not to have the worry about the shifting. Not that the shifting bothered me it just seems for me at least, it would just be less tiring mentally, and I'd rather just focus and put my energy into driving the rig. Or maybe just suck it up and keep learning how to clutch because still most companies don't use auto shift. Don't know, maybe worrying to much about it I'm sure I'll be fine once it's second nature.

    Thanks for any input.

I only use the clutch to start. Or to get it out of gear on hill.

Yup won't take too long and you won't use the clutch and will never even think about it. You just know when to grab another gear after awhile.

just relax, after you learn where to shift on your rpms or your speed you wont need the clutch and if you still like to use it then it will just come second nature to you and you wont think about it youll just do it, relax and take your time, cant learn it all over night.

Yes. You will tire more quickly at first. Good question! So DONT push yourself especially afterdark. After a while...it will come naturally for you..

You may not have to worry about it at all. You are pushing the limits on being hireable since you received your CDL in September. You may be going back to school to learn all over again!

Listen up new drivers! Driver fatigue....it is time to find a place to park when....you are finding it tiresome to check all your mirrors and get tunnel vision...when you slack off on speed...when your eye lead time decreases...all of this happens BEFORE your eyes start closing and are warning signs that you need to park your truck and take a nap. Safe trucking!

Nobody said anything about dozing off - we're talking about shifting gears here.

There will always be 'that guy' that has to be condescending. Worst part about it is he's a new guy himself.
