I am starting a driving job where I will be driving at night 90% of the time. Is there any suggestions or tricks that you guys have? I never worked night shift before so I am a little nervous especially now it is almost winter. Thanks everyone.

Well; I used to prefer nights, but the older I get the less I like it. One thing that helps is a GPS. It shows the names of the upcoming streets and gives you a heads up so you don't have to flip so much.

There is a lot more drunks out at night. A lot of drivers shut down early so if you need to stop somewhere parking might be a challenge. Restroom etc. Learn where all of your controls are at. I keep a small penlight handy. Also you will need a good flashlight.

Night driving is not bad once you get the feel for it. One bad thing though. When I go in somewhere I look for landmarks coming out. (Turned at corner right after car lot etc. hard to get a good field of vision at night.)

Myself I like to chew gum or snack on something, seems moving the jaw keeps me
    awake...

Other than that you'll just have to tuff it out till your body gets used to it..it may
take awhile but trust me it gets eaiser as it goes..

Keep your mind engaged as much as possible. Talk radio, books on tape, pondering the mysteries of life, whatever it takes.

    Hanadarko Thanks this.

I joined the army at a 130 lbs. Got out at 195 I think maybe 180. When I fought full contact I weighed in around 165-169. I have had my weight go up and down quite a bit. I used to be able to drop weight fast, but lifting all those tarps has really got these arms big now...:biggrin_2559:

Get your eyes checked if necessary ! And of course- a clean windshield and mirrors.
