I'm just going to be honest, go out on a limb here and call it as I see it. I think that *some* of your concern is how well she can/will manage w/o you, but I also think (again I'm just trying to read between the lines here) that you have some worries about her faithfulness during those 1 month + trips. As the fella above said, it takes a special breed of woman to be the wife of a trucker. She has to be strong, independent, self-sacrifice'n woman. Not to mention 100% trustworthy. If there are any jealously issues in the relationship now, they will only get worse. If she's worried your gonna find an outta town booty call before you even leave, she gonna drive herself crazy once you actually head out. If you're worried that your buddies are gonna offer to"mow the lawn" every chance they get, you're about to spend many sleepless nights in the bunk driving yourself nuts! In short, if your marriage has a weakness, trucking will expose & exploit it. Trucking isn't worth losing a great relationship over, its not worth driving either of you to the brinks of constant worry. BUT, as hypocritical as this sounds, once you get out there, and get that pavement in your blood, by that point its too little too late...your new love becomes the hwy and all that comes with it... I may not be the victim of a
wondering wife but the latter I am guilty of...because right or wrong, selfish or not, I would not trade the hwy for the boring, repetitive, routine life I once had...hey, I'm just being honest.

If she is the only one in the house, then it will be a very trying time for her. It seems that drivers who have kids seem to keep the wife busy and not as lonely. I have to admit that I too lost a relationship due to becoming a driver. Some women require a man at home all the time, just the way it goes. I have to admit tho, this life has been great to me and led me to the love of my life who is very understanding and supports me in all i do. i wouldn't trade it for anything!!!!
That being said, here are a few tips: Always call her and tell her you love her.
Try not to tell her how much you miss her, but let her know she is on your mind often.
Always listen to her complaints and help her out as much as you can from that long distance away.
And the main thing is DO NOT CALL HER TO COMPLAIN about your job. Even if you have a very rough day, she is having a worse one knowing you are out there all stressed and she can't help.
Lastly, even tho it's a very old thing, postcards can be a major surprise and eventually they will start looking forward to them. Just a little thought.
Best of luck to ya in your quest. I think you two will do finebucsk10 Thanks this. -
I too have anxiety issues and DH is leaving for training here shortly. If she has a computer then have her join here too, there are plenty of wives on here to talk to and if she has a facebook there is a page for wives of truckers that is SO supportive. I love those ladies. We share everything there, the good and the bad, we have each others back. Having friends and family close by helps too. DH is making sure that everything is taken care of before he leaves. We already both have cells, skype, and since we have 3 kids we have made sure that they understand that daddy won't be home for awhile. hope this helps at least a little!
