getting your authority

You're your own trucking co. with authority. So you find your freight, do the billing, deal with the Feds, get loans if needed, deal with maintainence etc. If you're leased to a company, THEY do the above mentioned, (for a %).

With your authority comes increased risk, compliance responsibilities, more work and increased earning potential.
My simplest explanation goes like this. As a driver you take on driver responsibilities. As a lease operator you take on owner responsibilities. And as carrier (authority) you take on business responsibilities.
This doesn't mean you don't need to be a good businessman/woman to be a lease operator, it just means you will wear many more hats with your authority.
