My medical card is about to expire within the next 30 days and my company has inform me as well but I am ready to leave this company because they want to include a sleep apnea provision and I dont want it. I work for them for 1.5 years prior to a sleep study and within the last 4 months I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and currently using a cpap machine. I am looking for local work now have save a few thousands where I can quit this company and search for a job. I don't want to get a medical card thru this company I would prefer to get my own physical done and look for a job. I want my cdl to stay current and another medical doctor to make a decision if I need a cpap machine. Any advice tx

No problem [probably] getting a medical on your own. Bigger problem will be hiring on with someone that does not want their own "physical/medical" as a pre-hire condition. Then, your time, trouble, and expense might be wasted if theirs is somewhat "more stringent" and you end up right back where you are today. Most of the "larger" companies will want their own medical performed as part of the hire process. You may have to work with the smaller outfits that have their own set of issues and problems, but with other advantages.

Are you under the impression the sleep apnea goes away with a different doctor?

A lot of local companies will use your current card, they don't want to waste the $ if they don't have to. I used Nova medical for my cert, didn't even check my blood pressure lol.

About 90 bucks and you can get your own medical card
    AND long form...
Many places besides the mega carriers will accept a copy of your new long form....just something they won't have to pay for.
Just remember to stop by the NC DMV and show it to them so you can be updated in the system.

I have been doing it this way for years....Unless the company just wants to pay for it.

Yes....it can if the driver does not mention it.
Just carry the cpap with him if needed.

I don't know if "sleep apnea" goes away often, but I feel pretty sure it is mis/mal-diagnosed quite often.

Yep! The new way for them to fleece money from drivers.
They have to pay to be able to do DOT physicals so you know they do this to drivers who really don't have sleep apnea, just so they can charge a couple grand for a "sleep study"..
    What a money making racket!

would the new company go with their own sleep study or look at my previous medical card sleep proviso when considering employment. I'm guess my concern is been discriminated against for sleep apnea

Who are you thinking of hiring on with?
If you get a new medical card and long form on your own why bother telling them?
