Getting your own medical card

Well, I must be 109% healthy as I only had one voluntary issue that kept me from a 2 year card.

But yes, I understand what you are saying... And as soon as I turn 50 I will get another point of the Sleep Apnea scales and trigger a Sleep Test.... Oh yeah!!!

 

She said I needed a DOT approved CPAP machine which doesn't exist.

 

If you don't have sleep apnea, but previously diagnosed with it, can be eradicated and does go away. See your own physician someone you trust. There are people who truly have sleep apnea and those falsely diagnosed with it. It is a big $$ industry. Do not be railroaded by a carrier who requires it. Get your own study, which cannot be denied... (DOT will more than likely be defeated on mandatory testing regulation). If someone truly does have sleep apnea, then shop around for the c-pap. They can be found for hundreds rather than thousands of $$ charged by the carriers' providers. Don't allow yourself to be bullied into something you don't have.

 

If your not driving but wish to maintain your CDL-A w/o imposed limitations, then update your medical card. Then inform your states DOT to be sure it is noted on your license. Many chain pharmacies have express clinics that are DOT certified/licensed to perform DOT medical exams. Many carriers will accept independent med cards. Some majors won't.

I think they charge 90 bucks but I have not used them..My card needs renewed in a couple of months...

I've got to warn you all, I just got my DOT done, I got lucky and only had to provide superficial proof of my sleep apnea treatment, the NP accepted my letter from my doc and didn't expect me to go through another sleep study which my doc said clearly I do not need it for a while (5 years at least). BUT I didn't get a long form, I didn't get much of anything, she put it into the computer, when I went to self-certify, it was there but still had to send my portion into the state.

HOWEVER and it is a BIG HOWEVER, she warned me that next time I need to do all of this at least 45 days in advance because they are allowed now to hold me up to confirm my doc's records are what you stated and the state has the freedom to suspend the license even with the temp permit in hand.

Now before any of you go and tell me this is wrong, I ask the state the other day when I went in there for tabs what the deal was, the girl who was nice read off the sheet she was given and this is pretty much what they said. AND the girl said that I don't get a short form any more, which is alright with me.

 

Seems reasonable to me... If I say that I am working with my doctor on X and here is a letter from him/her about X, seems totally normal to verify those facts with that primary doctor and that might take some time to confirm.

I think so. What should be a two year card has been reduced to a one year card for no good reason. Now it's a one year card which has been reduced to a ten and 1/2 month card for a totally absurd money grab by our no good gubermont.

 

My machine has a readable SD Card, is the maybe what they are talking about? It is to ensure compliance, using it 4 hrs a night, 70% of the time.

While many of you are convinced this is all a scam, I lost a friend at 54 from umdiagnoses Sleep Apnea, so I know not does exist, and personally I take it very seriously.
