Well, last time I asked I had a lot of different answers here.
Basically I know it isn't that hard to do. It is just knowing how to do it.
So. I try to make my questions very very simple to read and understand so anyone else who reads can understand as well. Lol.
Say I want to switch motor carriers ok.
I want my own tags, not the motor carriers. So say I want a Tennessee tag.
Reason I say Tennessee is because my truck is registered in Tennessee although I'm living in GA.
So how much is TN Tags for the year? What is the process and how long and where do I need to go?
Thx again and appreciate your answers.
Getting your own Tags, yes another question

You can't get your own tags in any other place other then you have residency. Basically your only option to have your OWN tags (this mean registration and license plate) is getting them in GA. Carrier which is based in TN able to get tags, however this means that they own tags, not you.
Tags cost may vary depends on your state procedures. Normally due time based on last 2 digits of the tax number. And no one really knows what's their calculation procedure. To find out what exactly required to get tags look up "IRP <your state>" and find state agency website (not a permit service). What you'll need for sure is 3 proof of residency.csmith1281 Thanks this. -
You have to go to Nashville I'm pretty sure. Doesn't matter where you live if you have your truck registered in Tennessee you still go to Nashville. How much they are depends on the year of your truck I think. Mine were maybe $1500 or so? Can't remember right now.

So if I have my truck re registered in GA because I live in GA. Yes my carrier is based in TN now. That's why all their plates are TN and only reason I registered my truck in TN even though I don't live in TN was to save money on taxes and be exempt from the sales tax. And I signed some form exempting me from it. That is because I bought the truck earlier this year. So I just don't want to pay thousands of dollars in sales tax is partly it. I don't mind going to the GA DMV or GA dept of Revenue? Department of Revenue right? to get it registered there. -
Well, I'm wondering how you could be except from sales tax even in Tennessee. Whose name on the title?
-
my name. some form they have bc my carrier is based out of TN so hey, no complaints. Who would.
-
Many states, rolling stock is exempt from sales tax, but when it is paid, it is paid on titling, not registering it. You shouldn't have to pay just for registering it in your name

In Illinois trucks and trailers are exempt from sales tax. You have to have your business registered in IL/or be a resident, if registered to your name. Trailer tags are one time registration fee only and it never expires. The IRP renewal cost me $1950 this year.

So if I get a trailer and get it registered I Illinois then i would only need to do it once and that's it? Do you have to be a resident?
I've heard, I dont k ow for certain but of Maine being a good state to register your trailer in even if you dont )I've there trailer in as they want it done ever 5 yeare or so but dont quote me.
Where I'm pleased onto it is 50 a week for there tags. So 2600 a year. -
Yes Maine runs around $120 for a 5 year tag for a trailer IIRC. You dont have to be a resident
csmith1281 and Bean Jr. Thank this.
