So I was gonna apply with Estes now I have one year and a month of experience but my girl has made is blatantly clear she would not like me being gone all week.
Honestly I feel like a simp not going man. The chances of making way more cash and terminal to terminal sounds like a breeze.
My current gig with U.S Xpress has some problems and it’s destroyed my personal life.
Here is why I’m leaving US Xpress
Six days on 34 hour reset off. The off day can be random and is never set.
Pay scale is way to low. But I’m fine with $1200 a week but I can’t stand the fact I have to deal with Walmarts.
The real reason I’m leaving 1 hour drive to work up and back. Put 24 thousand miles on my car in one year with them and extra 8+ hours dedicated to job on top on 65-70 hour work week. Can’t believe I lasted a year.
So I have a new offer that’s paying .52 cents a mile. Fedex contractor Sabot. Weekends off.
Job is only 17 minutes from my place. It’s a linehaul gig and home everyday. Should I jump on this job while it’s available or keep waiting for better jobs?
I can’t get linehaul it seems in my area with Estes or old dominion they never call. Maybe they don’t hire unless you have multiple years or have been with company.
Also job offers spotting a trailer pays $30. $10 drop and hook. Is this fair for a linehaul gig? I know the CPM is low but I’ll take it for how close job is to me. Also what is spotting a trailer? What do you do.
GF says no to Estes xtraboard! Advice for a good alternative?

I worked extra board for YRC for about 3 years and refused a bid run. I was making more per year than the drivers with bid runs.
If the FedEx job is W-2, then go for it.
YRC is hiring for line haul and it's a Teamsters Union company with free healthcare.bentstrider83 Thanks this. -

I don’t want to miss the chance especially since it’s only 17 minutes from my apartment. I’ll check out YRCChinatown Thanks this.

Seems like driving for those FedEx contractors is a clean, simple deal with good pay.
-
the fed ex contractors around here are 1099. and some of the worst drivers on the road. midwest.
-
Is 1099 worse than W-2

If your relationship history is anything like mine.........take the job. It'll be around a lot longer than the Girl!
TheLoadOut, JoeyJunk, Rideandrepair and 9 others Thank this. -
1099 means you are responsible for keeping track and paying your own taxes. you are seen as an independent contractor. typically have little or no benefits. it's strictly up to the owner how they want to run it. a lot of ads here explicitly say no health ins, holidays or paid vacation.bentstrider83 Thanks this.

Yes. You are responsible for paying all of your own income taxes, Social Security and Medicare taxes, you won't be covered by workers comp, you will not be eligible for unemployment, no health insurance, no 401K. I would highly recommend AGAINST a 1099 jobbentstrider83 and Dennixx Thank this.
