I have a 2015 Lonestar with ISx15. Has 225kmiles. It stutters and stalls at various speeds without completely turning off. It does die occasionally. We have replaced the turbo actuator and fuel rail pressure sensor. It def seems to be starving for fuel at times. Replaced the fuel filter and it’s filthy after less than 1000 miles. It doesn’t throw any codes so the dealership says they find nothing. Can’t run this way, only a matter of time before being wreckered. Any suggestions?

But what is filthy fuel filter? Oil? Water? Algae?86scotty, FlaSwampRat, Bean Jr. and 1 other person Thank this. -
Have you taken the filters apart, You may be looking at either Algae or Asphaltene depending on what it feels like. Have you inspected the fuel tanks?
Rounded_nut Thanks this. -
No way that filter should be that dirty with that many miles. You should dip your tanks and see what's going on.
86scotty Thanks this. -
Drain both tanks, have them flushed then flush everything from the tank pickups to the filter and make sure there is no leaks.
I had this issues twice and there was so much crud that came out of the tanks that we didnt see looking into the tanks -
Ok, so you guys are correct filters aren’t as bad as I claimed. Yes, on a hook. It’s currently at rush truck centers and they are having a hard time duplicating symptoms. Assuming it’s going to be electrical.

Had a similar situation with a 2012 ISX 15 and no one could figure it out . Had a diesel mechanic Plug a fuel pressure gauge into the system and run it up out of the hood so we could see it while on the test drive. He also connected his lap top to see what fuel pressure the engine is calling for under load . While climbing a hill the engine was calling for
30,000 psi and the fuel gauge was barely at 5000 psi. They checked the fuel pump and one of the plungers was shattered and seized and the engine was only running on one plunger. It would sometimes throw a code under load but not always. The fuel pumps on ISX engines were very problematic on earlier emmision equipped engines. They had ceramic plungers that came apart and could take out an engine and they switched to steel plungers and they failed too due to the high pressure the fuel pump runs at. We had both designs in that truck and they both failed. It’s hard to replicate in a shop, you have to drive the truck and put a load on the engine . I would have them check the fuel pump. Ours was a 2012 , but I still think they had similar problems with 2015 ISX engines.Rounded_nut, stuckinthemud and spindrift Thank this.
