Was this truckstop really as bad as they say?
I find it hard to believe a mesquite location could be worse than the flying j in Oak cliff off i20 and bonnie view

Dudley and Petty in Corning. They'd fuel your truck, check everything under the hood, do the windows and park it for you. This was in the 70s. Most of the truck stops on the west coast were that way. Free coffee, free showers, food that didn't look and taste like it came off of an assembly line in some third world country and waitresses who didn't act like they were doing you a favor to wait on you.
Things have sure changed. We don't fuel in truck stops any more unless we have to. We have a tank in the yard and we use key-locks on the road. A couple of our steady customers let us put in fuel tanks and they have showers too.
Like one of our drivers said.."I ain't scared of nothin' on the road but those new truck stops just plain terrify me" -
