One article said that the ships often have an escort through the canal, Ever Given didn't. Maybe they need to make this a regular deal.
Dave_in_AZ and Coffey Thank this. -
Apparently, this huge ship is unstuck and is no longer costing the world economy $400 million per hour.
Dave_in_AZ, NavigatorWife and Coffey Thank this. -

If any of you are old enough A oil tanker was sunk or stuck back in early 70s during the oil embargo?? that made oil go up thru the roof and our press. from GA. lower speed down to 55 mph?
Flat Earth Trucker, Dave_in_AZ, NavigatorWife and 1 other person Thank this. -
It wasn't that president from Georgia, it was one from California. Richard Nixon was President during the Arab oil embargo and signed the national 55 mph law in 1973. Took affect in January 1974.gentleroger, Dave_in_AZ, NavigatorWife and 2 others Thank this. -

A week stuck in the Suez Canal? Once, 14 ships and crew were trapped there for eight years
When war erupted in 1967 between Israel and Egypt, 14 foreign cargo ships that happened to be in transit were told to drop anchor and await instructions
While passenger ships were permitted to complete their runs through the canal, 14 foreign cargo ships that happened to be in transit were told to drop anchor and await further instructions. This move sequestered them … for eight years.
