Don't do it. A friend of mine hauled a load from Provo UT to Cheyenne for a little bit over 5.00 per mile , reefer load. he rather drove back to saltlike empty than hauling loads from Denver for that kind of money. the problem here is, brokers know that someone is going to do it , that is the reason they refused to pay the fair amount. basically the want to give you money for your diesel only and everything else is for free. if we, all refuse to provide our equipment and our labor for free, then broker wouldn't have other choice than to pay up.
Someone should put up a billboard in Denver. Leaving Denver? Leave empty. You'll be better off, let the brokers figure out how to move freight for free.
too many lease drivers. too many guys with more than 1 truck who will book loads for any rate just so they can keep their drivers. the cycle of exploitation is perpetuated and we wonder why brokers control this industry. Some truckers suggest to go direct with shippers and cut off brokers from the deal. I say that is not going to work , because there are a bunch of beggars, crawlers, spineless truckers who will stab you on the back and take your loads for cheap. I know that for experience and many brokers told me that also. so, as long as we are selfish , ignorant, uneducated and greedy , nothing is going to change .
So many assumptions around here about what other carriers are making. Maybe if they focused more on their own operation they would be more profitable.
