Someone told me that if you've got your CDL on your own and are looking to just get started...Maverick is a pretty good company. I live in Southern Missouri...is Maverick a good fit? OR anyone have a better suggestion?

BTW....I'm 55, in perfect physical condition, have no family ties, perfect personal driving record (no tickets or nothing for over 10 years), and no criminal record either...

Heck you live right smack in the middle of the flatbed freight lane. It would be really hard to keep you from the house.

Are you saying that I'd be coming home frequently because of my location?

Trailiner Corporation in Springfield might be a good fit. One driver posted he works there and does a lot of West Coast turns.

Do they let you bring your rig home? I'm in Southeast MO...Springfield is Southwest

What do you mean by "on your own"? If you mean you rented a truck/trailer and took the skills test and didn't go to school, you're going to have some problems. I used a truck and trailer at the company I work for and went and took the pre-trip and road test ($50 total) so I didn't have to pay some stupid amount for CDL school. I have a perfect driving record and no arrests or convictions of any kind. The problem was, when I was looking into other companies, every company I called said, "How much experience". I told them I just got my CDL. Then they say, "What school did you graduate from". So I tell them that I didn't go to a school and that I went and took the test on my own. EVERY SINGLE COMPANY said, "You either have to have previous experience or you have to have graduated from an accredited school or you can go to our school for $5,000 (or whatever that company's price was)". I was stuck until I got more experience with the company I was working for. I actually stayed at my current company and 1 year later I'm avg 3200mi/week and home every night and every weekend so it all worked out.

Just letting you know that if you get your CDL on your own without school, you will more than likely have to go through some type of school at a company (such as Maverick's driving school) and it will cost you and you will be contractually obligated to that company unless you get lucky with a smaller company like I did.

No...when I said "on my own" I meant I didn't sign on with a company to get my schooling. I have gone to an accredited school....just no 'strings attached' so to speak. I can start with whoever I want...no educational contract attachments.
