The term "Glad Handing" originally meant "clasping" or shaking hands, such as a Politician does.
"Glad hands" resemble two hands clasping and that is how they got their name. But I am not sure who coined the phrase.scythe08 and Semi Crazy Thank this. -

I was feeling much better about my glad hands working and not falling apart on me til seeing where the meaning came from

That just about describes politicians, doesn't it?Eowyn Thanks this. -
I have seen "glad hands" used as a common expression as far back as 1965 in old company literature laying around office...
dunno... -
The phrase goes back to the early use of air brakes on the rail roads.
