Yup, turned 3600 miles and 7 stops last week. I'm home for the weekend and then on up to North Canton OH for Tuesday morning delivery. Life is sweet.
Glad I moved over to Poly Trucking

My personal plans have changed since last we meet. I'm currently in College Station,TX with my son (who deploys overseas at the end of the month) at a nice hotel waiting for my wife to arrive later this afternoon after she does a "MUD RUN" this morning. Hey, a little R&R never hurt anyone.
Anyways, to pick up my travels from last post. After loading in Grand Rapids,MI I deliver on time in Hattiesburg,MS and make my way close to Dayton,TX for delivery the next morning (Thursday). I arrived around 0630 Thursday for an 0700 appointment. But,NOOOOO. I'm told my appointment isn't till tomorrow (Friday at 0700). The gaurd said to call back around noon to see if they might work me in later. But...WE HAVE A PROBLEM HOUSTON!!! I need to be back in DFW no later than Friday morning so I can leave to pick up my son for his last leave before deployment.
Monday afternoon while driving from MI to MS my son notifies me that his leave days were changed from the end of the month to this weekend. No problem, I thought. I'll just tell dispatch to get me a Pol-Tex load, or backhaul, back to GP, or DFW area, instead of Henderson. I did with an explaination as to why. Since this is usually the course of action anytime we deliver in the Houston area I figured it would be no problem. I was right until Sam's DC decided to throw a wrench into the works.
After being turned away I call backhaul dispatch and told them what was happening. I was speaking to one dispatcher while another was trying to call. Which I let go to voice mail. Dispatcher #1 checks the paperwork and confirms it states the appointment is for Thursday at 0730. He tells me to give him a few minutes while he calls the broker. In the mean time I listen to the voice mail from dispatcher #2. They have a load for me to pick up today (Thursday) anytime before 1600 going to Belton,TX for delivery tomorrow (Friday) between 0700-1800. Nice but I have to get unloaded first.
I call dispatcher #2 to let him know there is currentlt a delay in getting unloaded. While talking to him I get a call from dispatcher#1, which I let go to voice mail. #2 says ok. I listen to voice mail from #1. Sam's has changed appointment time to today (Thursday) at 0915. I call #1 to say thanks and let him know I got the message. I call #2 and leave message that I will be able to cover the Belton backhaul.
I call broker on Belton load to get info while being unloaded at Sam's. He tells me that if I can make it to Belton by 1800 today (Thurs) they will take delivery. Well bless my britches! Sam's has me out the gate in less than two hours and I'm at the shipper about 1200. The loading was quick, and after a brief stop at a truck stop I'm on my way. I arriver at the receiver at 1700. Had to wait for one flatbed being loaded and another van to be unloaded. But I was still out of there by 1815 and roll back to GP.
So...all is well that ends well. I picked my son up yesterday morning and we went to Dublin,TX to take in the Dr Pepper Museum. A neat place to visit, but also kind of sad. Why sad? Because due to a lawsuit brought against The Dublin Bottling Co. in 2011 after Snapple bought into Dr Pepper, The Dublin Bottling Co could no longer manufacture their signiture PURE CANE SUGAR DR PEPPER, or Dr Pepper at all. i.e. They lost their distributorship. However, they now make their own line of sodas they sell at the museum. They make one called "BLACK CHERRY" that tastes really good. Dare I say better than Dr Pepper.
After that we decided we wanted to come to College Station to watch my wife's co-worker's daughter play right field for the TX A&M softball team. (currently ranked #5 in the NCAA) They won in the bottom of the seventh (softball games are seven innings in regulation play) 2-1. The right fielder (the girl we went to watch) made an awesome classic 9-5 (right fielder to third base; not easy) put-out to end the 5th inning.
So now it is time for brunch and I must go...later. -
Well I wanted to wait until it was a pretty much a done deal but I am excited to say that I have hauled my last Crete load and as of next week will be a Poly driver.
After reading thru this thread many times and talking with some poly drivers, I decided to apply at Poly just to see if I would even get a call back. Well everything seem to fall into place and here I sit ready to start my adventure. Looking foward to meeting some of you guys and hopefully ill be able to fit in and do a good job.
jdrentzjr Thanks this. -
Sounds like an awesome place to work. If I can sell my wife on not wanting gone for more than 2 weeks at a time, I would have already sent an app. I may do it on the sly, then try to sell it to her lol. Thanks for all the informative posts. It really shows there are still good companies out there that don't try to micromanage you.

what is the physical for employment detail? do they have you do lifting and all the other stuff? thanks.
-
Hoping to apply around the first of April...just have a few things left to take care of at our rental property. So save me a spot, will ya?!?
-
The physical was just lifting a crate with about 50 pounds up to your waste or so 1 time. The rest of the stuff was just general blood pressure test etc. Was over in about 10 minutes

Made it to my first stop at the "mom and pop" in Carteret, NJ. Found a decent dirt lot to park in barring the presence of the no parking signs
Hopefully won't be a problem on a Sunday night before I break out of here in the morning. One more drop over in Linden, NJ after this one then up to the Boston area for my last one. Hoping to get out of there before this next winter blast comes through but thinking I won't be able to make it.
