One last question b4 I put it in the wind literally Kansas , Oklahomo down to Houston for Monday , couldn't get a 900diff okayed !
On the 30 min mickey mouse break after 8 , do we have to log it as "safety Break" or just log town name / location I know it can be line 1 or 2 just haven't drawn it out yet !
I know I'll be busy when I get my logs back.

we had our bi-annual safety meeting last saturday.
our regional manager says industry groups are in court to eliminate the 30 minute break.
he said you can log the 30 minutes any time but when you were off duty 8 hours ago you cant go into the driving line with no 30 minutes off duty i believe sleeper is the same.but we got daycabs

I recommend you Google the new HOS rules when you can so to be clear for yourself and understand how each change is written. I read it as you need to label it "rest break". In addition the rule is you CAN NOT drive unless it's been 8 hours or less since your last off duty status of 30 minutes or more. In other words you'll need to show that break on or before 8 hours has past from the time you start your 14 hour clock. Be advised if you take the break early you might have to show a 2nd one if you plan to work all of your 14 hour rule. Best to take your break at least 5.5 hrs after the start of your day to be covered for the whole 14 hours of possible work for that day. As I say. Best to read it so you understand it better.

Thanks for all the other Log stuff you mentioned. Sounds like some good information tips on doing some things. I find it best to try and not get into Log stuff that much. Seems to tend to get into some kind of Politics or something to easily. I'm not sure what they'll say we'll have to do in the future. Seems like more rules all the time. I will finish with this...regardless of what they tell us they want in the future... my time shown in the sleeper is going to stay exactly as it is. I was in there so that is that. If they tell me I can't be in there while at the customer anymore then I will adjust and future logs will reflect those changes. However, old logs that I have as in the sleeper stay the same. I was in the sleeper at that time so that's where I logged it. Doesn't matter what my other status was or what they may have wanted me to do. At the end of the day...sleeper is physical location and to put something else is a false log entry. Tell me to stay out of the sleeper and log as line 4 and we're good. Otherwise, sleeper it is! Just sayin! Take care out there.

No where in the regs is there a specific amount of time that must be logged for load/unload. However, when DOT officers perform inspections (roadside or terminal) don't see time logged for such duties, it causes a red flag. Which could lead to even closer scrutiny. I often log 15min on duty when I arrive at shipper/ consignee & 15min when leaving. Sometimes I'll just log at time of arrival.

I have always signed S/L/C. Never been refused. Especially if not allowed on dock.

Anytime you have a change in log book status you must log city/state. No other wording is necessary.

The eight hour rule simply put: you cannot drive more than eight hours without taking a 30min break.

Better put...no driving if more than 8 hours has past since your last break. Rule doesn't just apply to how long you've been driving. :)

I have been showing I mean taking my 30 min. break around the 6th or 7th hour of my 14, then everything is covered. If you take it before then, you are leaving the door open to having to take another before your 14 is up.

I generally stop about every 3 hours. I can't go more than 5 hours without a potty break anyways. The 30min break is a none issue for me.

    LilRobWayne Thanks this.

I have had SK tool try to tell me that SL+C wasn't allowed on a shipment of 9 plts shrink wrapped in black S/W ... okay I'll sign 9plts STC ... nope they said you have to sign pc cnt... I said standby and called my dispatcher , he said make them take all the s/w off or allow SL+C ,if they refuse to do either get out of there. Just call me as you're leaving so I know.
I've had many customers say your not allowed on the dock and STC or SL+C isn't allowed , we seal the trlr like that makes it all okay , well to some companies it does , others , that doesn't fly.
