I filled out the online application and submitted it yesterday. I called to make sure they received it. I spoke to Ed in recruiting and he said they received it. He asked me a few questions about my past experience and he told me everything sounds good. He said I might hear something by the end of this week.

Sounds good that your Application went through right away. Plus he spoke with you which is also good. I'm sure they are working on checking out your information. Next step is to interview in person at GP. Good Luck getting to that next step. I look forward to starting next week. I'm scheduled to be in orientation next Tuesday Oct. 30th. I'm sure a lot of things will be covered but it's been nice getting a lot of information from other drivers on here. I plan to try and post things to help others with their questions as I learn more from my experiences. Hope you make it to the next step.

As a general rule, not much, but it does happen. Tell me what OTR job doesn't experience it for one reason or another.

good point but here i sometimes loose 1-3 days a week they never have anything preplanned any more and have seen all to offten unload early am and wait till late night for pickup or plan you the next day with a bad load you know like 3 days to get 600 miles i waste to much time setting around waiting to get a plan or pickup or drop and they wount even try to make better apptments they dont want to over work the new breads that think 300 miles a day is big work thanks

Picked up a Backhaul yesterday up in Selah, Wa going down to Henderson NV. I waited out the chain law this morning up in Meacham OR and got over to Boise ID when I got a call from dispatch. "We had a driver breakdown in Boise and can you swap loads and go back west again?" I accepted and came back over Cabbage again the 2nd time today. I have 3 stops in Lebanon OR, Portland OR, and Shoreline Wa, all on Thursday. They already have a tentative Backhaul attached pickin up Friday going down to Dallas. I put in for a load home then out of Dallas so I could vote for our new president.

There is no policy against hiring smokers you just can't smoke at the yard.

The Kansas City, KS drop is also a Sam's Club. Got to get back up around 0500 for the unload and have a back haul lined up in Topeka and rolling back to Fort Worth. Took the non toll back roads up here today so I would have more opportunity to work on my shifting of this super 10 transmission. Just about got it worked out in my head but still taking a little getting used to in regard to getting it in the right gear on multiple dropped gears.

I was out in that area a lot this summer. Always good in the summer but rough at times in winter for sure.
Yes, they will work off your schedule for the face to face. They fly you down at a time that'll work for you. I think most OTR drivers just do it whenever they can get time off for like Home Time or whatever. They can complete everything in a few hours. I happened to be on a load going to the Dallas area when they called me. Worked it out to where I could just stop in and do mine between a couple loads at my current job. Timing couldn't have been better on my deal. You should be able to pick a time that works good for you. Good luck on it.

As a new driver you will drive an older truck. The shop is the weak spot. Their ability to do the work right and in a timely manner is not very good. The length between times that you are able to turn in paperwork for payroll can cause you not to get a paycheck for multiple weeks. HOWEVER, you can get a personal advance via ComCheck, up to $1000, against the miles you have run.
