My last truck was a Volvo 770/2001 DetroitD60 12.7L.The 12.7 Detroit was weak and bad on fuel; I blew the rad twice, used to overheat uphill , and @500,000miles on I-80 UT, blew up, i rebuilt it at Mountain Volvo in Salt Lake, UT.Got rid of it in July 2007,bought this new Volvo 780/2008/Volvo D13; first year I had some problems injector cups, emission sensors, but after a series of recalls Volvo fixed most if the issues: I'm O/O team for Celadon Canada for over 10 years,I'm pulling about same average weight loads/routes; I have 1,266,000 miles on this D13 original motor, and since I got it my average fuel economy is around. 8-9mpg, still pulling great. My last truck didn't get this kind of mpg bobtail, and this D13 is pulling ,way better torque : I took many loads to West Coast, BC,Ca ,Wa and never let me down. This new motors are using new technologies, a combination of variable geometry turbos and ultra high injection pressure to improve efficiency. From my personal experience , I spent over 1 mil miles in each truck, and i would never trade this Volvo D13 with EGR/DPF for the Detroit D60/2001; I know a dozen O/O with Volvos with D13, they all get same around 8 mpg.

All depends on maintenance on that engine. Have you any valve lash adjustments prior to rebuilt. My c-15 had 5.16 prior to valve lash adjustment. Now, it is 5.7 after the adjustment. Reason why the fuel mpg on my c-15 is low because of the stock muffler and the power upgrade files the previous owner done. Factory setup was 475 hp and now it is 500 HP.

I beg beg to differ with the valuation, the 630 is the ideal construction truck model and they are bringing more money in the used truck market that any 670 / 780. I suspect cluck cluck might have built his 630 with too tall of gearing on his rear end and may not have 500hp or ishift which all together take a lot of value off the resale price.

I guess we are looking at two different truck papers.

There's a thread about T680 in the KW section. It's another one to think about especially when you see comments like this http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...80-owners-would-love-some-32.html#post3950540 that's what you would call great fuel mileage with hardly trying. I would not have a Cummins and would be leary of the paccar mx though, maybe that is misplaced unfounded. I-shift sure seems to be the transmission to beat.

You can't go wrong with it, get the D13 rated at 500 hp.
