Are the trucks exactly the same in every other way? heck even a driver difference can change mpg considerably...I also said if you are on hills a lot, over 500 hp MAY benefit, but you need a large % of your driving to be hilly for that to be true. (I did partially admit you might be right in some driving situations) Your taking 2 trucks and advising based on 2 trucks numbers. When I drove for TMC a lot of the trucks had 550 horse cats in them (mine did). My 490 Detroit would fly circles around any tmc truck with the old cat motors. Again, im doing what you did and taking one seneraio as data which is not a good way to prove anything. If you recall I said MY detroit does better then most stock cats, but i never said ALL Detroit do. I said Detroits do AS WELL AS cats and then posted the power curves to prove it.
....and FYI Hammer, I have admitted I was wrong in a few post, but in general I don't post If I don't know the info i'm talking about.

Some of the TMC trucks got there nuts put back on, but you needed to know what mechanics to talk to lol. And no I don't think my 490 would keep up with a 550 owner of truck that was well maintained, but it would with a 500. Some drives don't understand the importance of a rear end, but having a properly selected rear end for the speeds and hills you plan to drive on is crucial. My truck does 65 at 1400 rpms. At at hat speed it still has plenty of tourqe and enough HP to power though most hills. Many trucks on the road are not speced for the speeds they cruise at (TMC trucks for example). Some were set when speed limits were slower and loose performance to try and keep at the high speeds. You cant have everything. Either you gonna get the best mpg, or the best power, or you can get a middle of the road truck like mine that does decent but still gets pretty good mpg. Were talkign about motors here as if its the only thing that matters. Trans, difs (ratios and locking or not), tires (and tread dep), DRIVER, Aero dynamics, brake adjustment, wheel barrings, pipes, intake.....etc...etc...etc....So many things factor in.

Thank you Richter for your entertainment. I love how you cast aside what others who have WAY more experience than you on ALL engines, yet you seem to think you know more than they do because you either read about it or drove one around the block once or twice. I would like to know what your opinion will be if you ever finish your lease and get a truck with say, a cummins or a cat. I have my money on at that time, your opinion will change and you will once again have the best truck on the block. If you ever drove a 6NZ, you'd know ...
