Hi all! A friend asked me this morning what I know about F.E.T. on new glider kit trucks. I have to admit that I don't anything about it. He said that he is considering a glider but doesn't want to pay the tax. I told him that I knew where to find out .... .... Help us please!

Thanks fireba11 ! I didn't complete my thought properly, my bad. He was talking about the F.E.T. exemption being eliminated in the very near future. That is his concern.

The law is already if the value of your glider exceeds 75% or 85% (?) of the cost of a similar model new truck FET has to be paid.

It is 75%. And that is easy to stay under since there is all that emission stuff on the new production trucks that really racks on the cost. And using a rebuilt engine and tranny, even when purchased from engine and tranny OEM, is considerably cheaper than new ones in a regular truck. You can really build up a glider to be something special and easily stay under the 75% threshold, as the comparison is between the glider specs and a new truck spec'd virtually identical.
