They made full mechanicals right up till the last C model rolled out of the plant. Honestly they made more full mechanical C's than PEEC'S.
mtoo and spyder7723 Thank this. -
What are you talking about? You can get a brand new 2019 glider.dclerici1, Socal Xpress, BoostedTeg and 2 others Thank this.

I suppose technically. Although only wealthy truckers and companies are doing that. Seemed to me this thread was about 3406bs and young people looking to get in the game.

I think maybe I have it confused? But from what you’re saying is that you bought a used truck and taking care of all the repairs as an O/O? That is different from buying a “glider”. A glider is a truck built from the factory without a power plant on its build sheet. Some are wired for a specific engine I.e. Cat,Cummins,Detroit.
Yes it’s true you have to pay to play in the game of new manufacturer gliders. But if you’re doing well enough to be fortunate and purchase one. Your business sense and practices doesn’t go without reward. Most glider owners I know are O/O that wanna buy a truck they are comfortable in and may keep for a long time or just simply resale value.
We just recently bought 2 W900L from east Texas truck center. It’s not so much cause it’s elog exempt but rather we prefer having Cat 3406E’s. And let me add that even though the block may be 97 and 98 builds. Nothing else on that truck says 20 plus years old. It’s a proven motor with parts readily available at most dealerships nationwide. Wherever the truck may be.
As far as being banned in the near future? Anything is possible. I’ve heard Some states give you hassles about registering them straight up as glider form. Ours already had Paperwork so all we did was take delivery. So we’ve never experienced what others have.
Don’t get me wrong. I like to get behind a mechanical B, N14 or big cam 3,4 every now and then. But I believe that technology belongs in a truck in that particular age group. Engine HP and cooling efficiency has come along way throughout the years.Trugo Thanks this. -
Aren't all truckers wealthy when they had two years working as a company driver?
Or is it another rumor i heard when I was hanging in the lounge at the Pilot when I was on the road? -
CADEC was doing the precursor to Elogs in the 80's. They just pulled the info off the tach and speedo inputs. Older trucks with mechanical gauges would just require a sending unit installed between the cable and gauge to generate the pulses.Intothesunset Thanks this.

Here's some reading on the regulatory side about gliders: https://www.everycrsreport.com/files/20180810_R45286_c4325dd675aecde55f22c907ab5051eeb0ee3919.pdf

Mind translating that 18 pages of nonsense.......
I read most of it and I can’t tell you what it says.......Last edited: Apr 28, 2019

That's the most relevant part, I believe. Basically after next year, you can't put older engines into new gliders. They'll have to meet current emission standards. That's what's currently in place.
BUT ... The rest of the paper is about the fact the EPA may overestimated it's statutory authority over incomplete vehicles, and was currently in process of issuing a repeal of that part of the GHG regs which effected gliders.
So it's still up in the air. EPA's Andrew Wheeler Says New Glider Truck Rule Would Consider Impact on ManufacturersCat sdp and Intothesunset Thank this.
