Pretty sure they are many who don't drive long enough for the eld to make a difference. I could be wrong, pretty sure I'm not though. Be safe out there. And yes, the HOS sucks. Rules created by those who don't know the job is ridiculous..... How does the old saying go? Oh yes....

I looked up the build date of my 6NZ, which is in a 2000 KW. Built date of 12/23/99! I wonder how much Christmas cheer was involved?
SAR, DUNE-T and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
The date the engine was built is immaterial. It is the EPA model year specification it was built to is the key. That is why Enos above has a 2015 glider with a reman likely built sometime in 2014 is exempt if the engine was built to an EPA model year specification prior to 2000, probably a 1998.
Whomever remanufactured that engine can provide you with the all important decal specifying the EPA model year.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Supposedly Detroit is issuing new serial numbers, as well as a new manufacture date to factory rebuilds. In actuality, 1998-2002 DDEC 4 should all be the same. What does someone who has a truck with a factory rebuild do?Oxbow Thanks this.
