GM’s Broken 6.2L V8s Are Stranding Owners for Weeks as Replacement Engine Pipeline Dries Up

General Motors is now the subject of an NHTSA investigation after more than a thousand complaints were logged over sudden and catastrophic failure of some of its “L87” 6.2-liter V8s—a core power plant for Cadillac, Chevy, and GMC trucks. It’s actually the latest in a string of uncommon but linked reliability problems to impact the 5.3- and 6.2-liter small block families over several recent model years—a notably bad run for what’s supposed to be an uncomplicated, naturally-aspirated V8 engine...

    And?

Should not have bought GM junk.

On the lighter side, seeing that GM took a hit from their Chinese owners, they still paid their workers $12k for profit sharing.

So just wait, their vehicles are going to be more throwaways.

The GMT-900 platform and the Vortec LS engines were the last of the great GM products.

I'm seriously considering doing a complete overhaul on an older truck because I am not overly impressed by anything currently offered by any manufacturer today.

I cant remember the engine but i think it powered the traverse about 10yrs ago . It was an unmitigated and known disaster by GM . Oil burning scortched ring having imperfect cylinder wall POS .

I'd honestly much rather buy a GMT-400 or GMT-800 with a decent interior and sink $20-25k into it over spending triple that on the stuff sitting on the lot today.

one thing is for certain you wont be chasing electrical gremlins like a new 1 . Honesly if you want an older truck in decent shape i'd look to some of the higher end auctions , seen a few square bodys roll thru for about 15k. Older fords and a couple D200 too.

I think its the newer LT platform with the issues. The LS was, IMO, probably the best engine platform GM developed.
