The problem with the 400 platforms in 88 through 91, is they had poor electrical QC, and a lot of them turned out to be nightmares for their owners.

I bought off the lot in 1987 a new suburban, it was loaded with 6.2 diesel. The sales Dweeb tried hard to get me into a new 88 truck which I refused to even take a ride in one. Someone at work bought a 1990 Chevy. He ordered it and waited three months for it, but it turned out to be a huge nightmare for him, he ended up with a Ford F150, with a rare column shift three-speed and a 6 300. This truck was so plain, it had a standard heater, and that's all it had. No radio, no frills at all.

    That's good to know.

My folks had a 1990 they bought when it was a year old and it was their daily driver for over a decade. That thing was virtually problem free aside from needing a distributor or cap every other year or so.

After the GMT-900 I really lost all interest in GM vehicles. Actually most vehicles after about 2017-2018 I don't care much for.

Idk what years are so bad. I see lots of later years with lots of miles. Just like the ford 6.oh no. Some are still going with nothing done to them.

idk but it does seem the last several years there has been severe problems with the big 3 . Maybe it poor quality components similarly with big rig components ie: injectors from what ive read on ttr .

anybody remember the GM 350 diesel conversion in the 80's?

    talk about a crap idea.

had one spun a bearing and cracked the cam, had it rebuilt with real diesel parts

it was an Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser, 1980?

GMT 400 with a LS based power plant is the way to go.

that’s my goal as well. Sink about 25K into that and drive it till I die.

Kind of odd, I could never get the longevity out of an LS engine. I tend to trust the old design more than the LS design. I have a new beater truck in the works, a 1972 GMC, which has a 350 in it. I was thinking about going the V6 route, but the pistons are hard to find.
