    Come here to covenant and see the "real deal"...i only make enough to pay for some bills/food and thats all......when i think i'm going forward..i'm really speeding backwards at a hellatious rate of speed...:biggrin_2554:.... i spoke to a driver from celadon, said she was there 8 years, that says something good about celadon.
    i met 2 drivers from covenant that are here from 12-20 years that says something about insanity:biggrin_2551:..........

    Doesn't it suck to work so hard for so little?? That part of trucking just drives me nuts. Fighting for every mile you get and even then its never enough. It would have been great to stay there if the $$ was at least decent, but their usual MO is to give you a 500 mile run with 4 days to get it there and hope you dont notice, and of course there will be over $100 in tolls along the way:biggrin_2553: I wish we could have made it work.

    yeah, i know what you are saying.......i just divided my pay to the hours i am dedicated out here to the truck and to the loads. at 70 hrs per week alone i am getting $6.42 per hour if you look at it that way....
    and as i have said before, the only reason this is the way it is, is because there are plenty of "newbies" that want in and will work for zilch as long as they get the experience..but this also hurts experienced drivers when the companies feel that they can pay you crap being that there will always be "hot" bodies ready to take the wheel.
    The only way to change anything is to "sit out". thats it, pull over, whatever. untill everyone sees what we the drivers go thru, but the driving force is not united, never will be, and this is why we will never get better pay, and more fair treatment in certain aspects.
    as for me i think that the newbies can have all this and enjoy it, next year coming i am finished with otr, i will get a local job,be a lazy mammal and spend my time at the beach..........with no one threating me about idle time and other piddly problems.

    However, there ARE truckin' companies that are better than the training companies for the newBees to aspire to
    IF they can make it through training.

    But, you're correct, MCR --- until the newBees take a stand and say we ain't gonna take this anymore, it'll continue.

    But I don't think it's entirely the newBees fault.
    They're just green-horneys and believe what they read
    and/or what the recruiters tell 'em.
    Many don't research the industry, and do a high dive head first
    before they realize that there's no water in the pool.

    I'm thinkin' that IF they knew the truth, many of those who take the plunge
    would look closer before they leap with the other lemmings.

    But we're read of others here a hundred times, or more, who think it'll be different for them, .......
    and they either crack their heads, or drown.

    OuCH!

    To refrase it better, it's a system wide failure of all the drivers, those that have the experience and those that don't. The ones that do are more responsible for demanding equal rights and fair labor/pay practices from all the companies we work for. But like i have said and so have some others...this won't happen,we are too wrapped up in ourselves to care anymore, each man/woman in their boat, rowing alone to their destiny..............

    Seems to me, (and I'm not an expert),:biggrin_25525: that if you pick up and deliver your loads on time, you get more miles. I have talked to alot of drivers who complain about no miles, but most of them couldn't plan a trip to the mall and are consistantly late. :biggrin_25516:Then they blame the company for their problems. I had to prove myself to the company and when they more they felt that I could handle it, the more miles they gave me. I was only late for one delivery and that was for weather. Eventually, the company trusted me enough to put me on a dedicated fleet, and this was after driving for only 6 months. Lot's of drivers were turned down for this desired position, some senior, some not. What it all boils down to is do your job, do it safe, do it on time and you will get ahead. At least that has been my experience.

    Be happy and enjoy the ride, at least your boss isn't riding with you! (unless your wife rides with you!:biggrin_2552:

    My wife always went with me on the road, we had our 12 volt cooler packed with food and most of the time food was cooked and then warmed and we saved money, the last place i worked we would go east then back which would be almost a week run, then run northwest the next week, i made .33 per mile, if i ran hard i could make 3700 miles a week easy, my take home pay for 2 weeks was $1800 to $2400 dollars for 2 weeks, we paid rent on our house and all utilities plus buying groceries at wal mart. i worked with drivers who could never be on time for a pick up or delivery to save their life. and the ones spending time at a casino spending their paycheck instead of saving it. The secret is keep the doors closed as much as possible keep the wheels turning,, I know freight is slow and some places dont pay well, but keeping the wheels turning is whats making you money, not sitting in a casino spending money, or buying neat toys or lots of lights for your truck or a new fancy cb radio just cause your buddy has one, cheap good radios work just as good and cost less. even if your spouse or signifcant other is with you, you can budget and make it work, if my wife hadnt been with me, i would have gone crazy being by my self.

    Thank you for that! We did not spend extra money on anything, because there never WAS any, and we aren't like that anyway. Buying a used DVD at a truck stop was a treat, and we did that maybe once or twice. Bill was always on time and it seemed like his reward was another 500 mile run with 4 days to get there and of course it couldn't deliver early....People want to rip me a new one all the time and say how much more it cost because I was in the truck but the reality of it was, he SAVED money with me in there because he wouldn't buy that DVD cuz he had me to talk to, etc...:biggrin_255: and we could make a loaf of bread, a pound of ham and swiss cheese lunch and dinner for a week with a ramen noodle soup mix or two and that is NOT living high on the hog. It was a reasonable expectation that we would try to save money by not having an apartment, utilities, etc... and we never could. I wanted Celadon to work out, just as much as he did. Things suck right now. I just lost a temp job after a week that was supposed to last at least a month but the demand petered out (call center) and he is still driving cab. We still are making more money than when we drove for Celadon. Sad. I really miss trucking too. I miss the lifestyle, I miss the traveling, I miss our feeling of independence (to a point-being a company driver) and that feeling of satisfaction when a load got where it was supposed to on time, and the anticipation of "where to next?" All that stuff I thought I didn't like when we were doing it, I find myself kinda pining for it now. The unfortunate reality of the whole thing is the wages were unacceptable for the risks you take out there. By the way, our phone bill gets paid on time now.
