The power of asking is bigger than people realize. These boards have lots of great experienced drivers who really know their stuff.

I'm asking every question I can. ;DEagle66 Thanks this. -

Just a quick question. If you obtain your CDL-A and work only a CDL-B job for a certain amount of time, would you have to take a refresher course if you wanted to get an CDL-A job.
Eagle66 Thanks this. -
he's got a good point, who knows in future you might need A class and since your training will be free for you why not get A and just drive b class trucks if thats what you want to doEagle66 Thanks this.

I'm wondering the same thing... -
many years ago when there was a distinct difference in the word/phrase, "driving job", yes, one would need to be "re-freshed".......but what i have been seeing for say abut the past 10 years or so, this isn't true anymore. a driving job is a driving job nowadays. it all counts towards your experience. if at all possible, one way to nearly guarantee an "easier slide" into full time class A jobs, is to try and start out at a place that has both A&B trucks. start driving the B trucks. the company will know you have an A license......from time to time, you very well may be given a quick run in the A truck.
also, from many years ago, any military experience was NOT considered as any real experience at all. that too has changed where military people that drove in the military can get jobs easier. in fact, in some states, its a simple switch over to the CDL license.

Even if you had to take a refresher course it only costs $500.00 in most schools to do so. That's a far cry from the thousands most schools charge for a first time CDL!
-
well i don't know of which particular school you speak of, but both my former and now current school (employer) charged well over $2,000 for a refresher course.........it ain't gonna be as cheap as you say..........so unless you know for sure what HIS school will charge.............please do not say "most"........

From what I've read all class A OTR jobs require recent schooling, then you go OTR with a trainer for a few weeks before you get put in a rig.Once you have a year OTR you can leave the training CO and look for a better gig.Not all COs do training, the ones that do are Werner,Sneider,Swift to name a few.
