Okay that makes sense. I plan to run like in the picture I've attached, but I have a lot of wiggle room when it comes to this. Firstly I plan to be out 3.5 weeks at a time with 3-4 days off in a row, then back out 3.5 weeks. Based on what I "think" is a conservative mileage rate (Is $1.60/mi too ambitious?), about $16000 gross revenue a month before any expenses are factored in.

First 2 line items are my estimated revenue if I run 10,000 miles a month at $1.60/mi (Is 10k miles too ambitious? Should I expect fewer?)
Next is my fixed truck payment and maintenance account ($952.87 truck, $135 maintenance) so like $1088/wk.
After that is my estimated fuel costs for the miles driven above, at 8.5 mpg and $3.00/gal for fuel (Is 8.5mpg a fair fuel mileage estimate?)
The insurance, prepass and permit numbers are from what SFI has provided me and I just multiplied those amounts by 4 to represent a "month". Also I will not be exercising the additional personal health coverages as I'll hop on to my fiancee's coverage after the wedding.
The last line item is 25% taxes on my net income, after business expenses like truck payment, fuel, permits and insurance. (This is correct right?)

I know I'll be a lucky son of a gun to reach $6k gross a week, but my plan as of now has me reaching $4000 gross every week and $5700-$5800 net every month if my numbers happen to be correct.

Stop trying to run miles. Think revenue per day on least possible miles.

Lunch counter math problem..... is it better to run a 1000 mile load for $1600 with 3 days on it. Or maybe 4 200 mile loads for $400 a piece and do 2 a day........

I don't know why you guys feel that you need to stay out weeks at a time to make money. .

Regional jobs are home every weekend and make more money. In most cases.

I didn't stay out for weeks at a time when I was OTR. I came home every weekend. Running regional.

money looks good it can be better with more time spent in a certain area less miles. What area do you run ? Running the NE you run short loads and light loads stay away from PA mountains unless light loaded and stay governed under 65mph. My friend only drives less then 8 hrs a day. Picks up 2/3 loads a day that are close to each other that pay a certain amount per mile and runs less then 150 miles each load and saves time and fuel. I know I’m not a O/O yet but I’m more then ready to be one , but SNI rule if you buy/lease a truck outside of their company you need to be on board at least a year as company driver.

On SNI load board you pick the same customer that you already know, pretty much that gets you in and out quickly, those same customers are usually in the same routes you take. That’s what my friend does at SNI and the load boards won’t say the customer name or address but most O/O save the IDs to that same customer.

I'm not trying to run crazy miles, I just put them down as a reference as I haven't seen the load board for myself yet. I've read from freightwipper's thread that shorter runs often pay more but more can also go wrong with planning. I guess it'll take me awhile to learn the board to figure out what areas work best for me in terms of maximizing revenue with as few miles as possible.

The load board is the biggest unknown to me right now, so my plan simply anticipates that I'll have to spend weeks away from home in order to reach my goals, especially since I'll be based in Salt Lake City. I can't say for sure whether freight rates in and around the surrounding area will be profitable enough for me to run, and the mountainous terrain will negatively impact my fuel mileage, and my bottom line.

Now say, if the freight in the Inter Mountain region (Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Colorado, New Mexico) is profitable enough for me to reach my goals, and be home every weekend, I'll do it. If I can reach my goals and be home every other night, I'll do it. I just like to prepare myself for "worst case scenarios". I'd rather run the Midwest and be gone longer than I'd prefer to reach my goals than to come home as much as I like with a crappy settlement every week.
