    Now at the TA in Harrisburg, PA. Did my D/H this morning and got my next PP. Picking up in Harrisburg and delivering in Atlanta (fun,fun). When I spoke to the receiver he said a PTL driver delivered earlier could not get his trailer backed into the dock without help WTF.

    My pickup is scheduled for 1500 but I went over to see if it was ready. Nope said come backe at 1400. So here I sit till then.

    @rcd127

    I want to personally commend & thank you for this informative thread. I've been reading threads similar to this about 5 companies that I was considering joining once I completed my 2nd journey through CDL school (I stupidly let my license go in 2009 thinking I'd never use it again... Dumb me). Your posts have generally offered the more nuanced information that give a feel of how a company operates. Yes it's important & relevant to put up hard numbers like most other postings. But hard numbers tell an incomplete story. I like to get an idea of how one is existing in the framework of a company. A paycheck, big or small, is relevant to your life's expenses. The go getters can make even the worst company job a profitable one if they push themselves to succeed. You seem to have that formula worked out.

    The whole paid/dispatched miles per trip, miles per week, accessorial pay, etc etc etc is good information to know. But frankly I learned in my previous stint in the industry the plain truth of the matter is that all companies get paid the same rates to haul the same freight. The differences lie in how they package what the driver gets paid for their services. And looked at from an industry wide perspective pay is about balanced no matter the carrier. That's why I appreciate what you post in your thread here. Details like the need for a broom at a beer brewery (been there, done that) & traveling some insanely truck unfriendly roads you get routed on or getting into a ridiculously tight dock in Chicago... This is the information that conveys the type of freight that gets hauled regularly or the type of driving one does. It paints in my view a picture of life in an aluminum box that is the single biggest obstacle to success in this business that so few are adequately prepared for once they enter it. So again thank you for this great & informative read.

    This thread, & the dogged persistence of Sammy Smock LOL, finally made my decision to accept the offer from PTL to come back into the business. Of the 5 companies I've applied to & received pre-hire letters, Sammy really kept sweetening the offer for me to choose PTL. I'll be starting the 3rd week of May & will be in the enviable position of only having to do the 6000 mile refresher training then I'll be upgraded to solo from then on. I'm even considering the offer to act as a 'Phase Two' driving partner for a fellow student that I'm currently attending school with now who is considering PTL also. This appeals to me in the sense that maybe my previous 6 yrs of OTR experience can be passed on to somebody in some way & I can do my small part to help a new driver succeed in this business. I know I wouldn't have made it early on if not for my excellent road trainer who still remains in contact with me to this day. But then again living with another man in an approximately 250 cubic foot box for some 40,000 miles, regardless of how well we get along, certainly presents it's challenges. I did it once myself in training but that's yrs past & age hasn't made me easier to live with. Or so says my wife, but what does she know right? :biggrin_25525:

    So again, & I can't say it enough, thank you for the informative read & I'll keep watching for your new updates. I look forward to joining this company in just a few more weeks. Be safe & keep it between the mustard & the mayonnaise!

    Made it to the Petro in Carneville, Ga, 604 miles for the day. I called to see if they would take me early for my 1000 appt tomorrow. But alas no. So I will do my 10 here and plan on arriving at 0900 ( the traffic around Atlanta will be fun then)

    Good to know about the 30,000 miles. I really think it's great that the company is willing to put him with me for that training if he'll come on board. That's a pretty big trust they are putting in me as well since I've been off the road for 5 yrs. I've not convinced the other driver to come on board yet but it's a pretty big carrot I'm dangling in front of him with PTL. Since we both live in the same town & there is plenty of freight going thru here it's regular home time & we'll keep rolling. If he will trust me to teach him right in Phase 2 it could be a good start for him.

    Just a few more weeks & it's back behind the big wheel. Be safe & keep it rolling!

    OMG that last delivery was a killer. The place was designed for 48ft trailers. I had to turn around in order to get into my spot. My trailer when I swung around missed a parked trailer by an inch. Plus 2 of the pallets fell over and they had to re stack them, took them 3 hours.

    Sitting at my next pickup. It is more reasonable, its a fairly new warehouse. Once loaded it's off to Seymor,IN another short run 457 miles. Told my FM I need something longer. I am wasting too much time at the shippers and receivers.

    Speaking of wasting time. It took them 10.5 hours to get me loaded in Atlanta. They had thought I had left. I said no I have been in door 40 since 1307. I hope to get some detention, we will see. I was able to get a reset so at least I could legally drive to the rest area north of Catersville.

    Got up this morning and got to my WM D/H. The drop was OK but could not find an MT for an hour. Got my next PP. Picking up in our drop lot in Indy and deliver in Delaware, OH. I told them I can't make the delivery time of 2200. I will be out of hours.

    On the drive up to Indy they pulled that load (they weren't to happy). They gave me a pickup in Indy and drop in our lot. I told them OK in the morning. I need sleep. good night.
