Find the cheapest school that whatever company you choose will accept. My opinion is the schools dont teach much so take it all in and be prepared to really begin to learn with a trainer at your first company. Im a newbie only 4 months experience. Make sure this job is what you want. Trucking is not easy and theres been several times ive thought being in iraq was easier then trucking. In iraq you just do what ur told. Out here your on ur own. Its not all that bad but its a hell of a job to get use to(im not even close to being use to it).
You might wanna look into the oilfield jobs as they pay alot more. I make so far between 500$-800$ take home a week. Those newbies in the oilfield bring home close to 1500$ a week. I kick myself in the arse for not goin to the oilfields. If theres any questions u got that i might know the answer to feel free to pm me. -
Well as of staying in the army I really dont have that choice anymore. And like I said before this is something that I really want to get into. And doing an oilrig I can't do that because my wife needs to stay close to home.

Well May would be right up the street from you if your in Salem. Dont know that much about them though. Never heard of Merger, did you mean Mercer. There is a couple schools in Oregon. Not sure if there is any in Salem. I went to IITR in Clackamas in 89, not sure how they rate with the others but I think I got good value for my money. Beware of any school that promises to get you a job after you finish with them. If you go to Trucking Schools in the forum here and post the same question you might get more info. I know one of the posters there worked for May for a bit.

trying going through the education center if you have one on the base...use the tuition assistance to pay for the schooling..most have to be accredited and have some kind of structure to be able to allow students to use tuition assistance.
Went through my TA office on base and they took care of everything. Had a few army guys while I was there..Former marine here so im sure the process is quite similar there. Let me know if you need any other help. -
Hey Josh how you doing? I saw your post about going from Army to trucking and asking about schools. I also saw you're going to Salem if you haven't already. I'm active duty Army and headed back to Eugene in November. Going to be attending IITR. Any luck yet?
