A little back story, I have a 91 379 with 1.6 million miles on it. With Meritor for rear ends, gear ratio 4:10.
Also, I do all the work on this truck myself.
I am wanting to price out getting a cut off with everything I want on it vs just sticking with the rear ends I have now and putting money into them with the disc brake conversion kit, new bushings for the suspension, different pumpkins, ect... The issue I am having is I can't find a drum to disc brake conversion kit anywhere online. Maybe I'm not typing in the right info for search on google, who knows. If anybody can help me out on this, I really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
Going from drum to disc brakes. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

I do not know about 1991 but the ones from the early 80's had different bolt patterns on the axle for the backing plates.
Buy a cut off with disc brakes if you want to go that way.skallagrime, Oxbow and Flexedbmw Thank this. -

Why… the drums worked for the last 1.6 million?
Sorry maybe my opinion is tainted with the 100% increase in maintenance when the buses switched from drums to discs. They were both hydraulic brakes so maybe that’s the problem. I know there’s supposed to be some advantages.
I wanted to say I heard at some point that the conversion was 3-4k but I don’t know what exactly was involved or what rears.
I wouldn’t think that a cutoff with the idea of cutting the frame would be worth it. I also hate the idea of cutting a perfectly good frame and welding it back together and I have been in the welding business for a long time.BoxCarKidd and Flexedbmw Thank this. -
Also the frame rails are twisted and really pitted and rusted in spots. The previous owner already cut the frame and rewelded it. It cracked on me. I'm looking at getting a brand new frame rails made. 300 in wheel base. The moter went out, which is what kicked off this spending spree, and I'm upgrading from a B model cat to an E model. Figure while I'm putting money into it, I'm going all what i want into it.W923 Thanks this. -

I have priced a couple of companies that make them, I thought they said 15k to make and ship them to me. I don't remember if that was also drilling all the holes or not.
W923 Thanks this. -
I would think that’s with the holes drilled because I priced some about two years ago for a 250ish wheel base truck for around 6 k but that was just heavy spec blank rails
