Dry van limits your freight. With reefers you can pull dry van freight and refrigerated freight. This can prevent you from being stuck somewhere until your company finds a dry load. With a reefer, you don't wait; there's always a load ready, dry or refrigerated.
I did dry van for about a year, then when I realized I could make more money and get more miles, I jumped to refrigerated and stuck with it.

    Tanker to van????
That’s like going from a nice jacuzzi with a couple of hot chicks to a plunge in the Arctic Ocean!

I see what you're asking. I went from tanker to first-time dry van in December, so I know where you're coming from. All of the little things are pretty easy to figure out. Your company should give you blank EFS checks to pay lumpers with. You'll have to call your dispatcher to get approval first though. They'll be expecting it bc they know in advance if the receiver has lumper fees.
Sliding tandems and fifth wheel is easy too. You can easily find YouTube videos on each that show you in detail how to do it and you're good to go.
You'll be expected to sweep or blow out your trailer after each delivery. You'll have to get good at clock management.
I knew nothing about dry van, but easily learned with each new situation that came along. Ask the company if they have a senior driver who you can call with questions when they come up.
I always thought dry van pay was low, but my company pays 65 cpm and $50 per load, W2, 100% of health care paid, 401k with match, and paid vacation. So take your time and find the best company for you. Good companies are out there for sure.

That's all legit. The cell phone reimbursement is $30/mo. Where it says "paid on all stops" means $25 to pick up a trailer and $25 to drop/get unloaded. Plus $25 for additional stops. So each load pays a minimum of $50, but goes up if you have two or more stops–that's in addition to your mileage pay. I'm in a 2020 Volvo. They all come with a CB, power inverter, fridge, and bunk heater. The $10,000 sign on bonus is paid out incrementally over three years.
