    Found this article and did some calculations from the data:

    Idling Emissions (Class 8 tractor) https://www.dieselnet.com/tech/emissions_idle.php

    From Table 2: 11.6 kg (8 hrs idle) fuel (assume A/C off)

    * Standard 1 gal diesel = 7 lbs

    so....11.6 kg (8 hrs idle) x 2.2 lbs/1 kg= 25.5 lbs, or 3.2 lbs/hr,

    and so, 3.2 lbs/7 lbs = .46 gallons/hr (A/C off)----A/C On would probably add +0.1 gal/hr using +4hp to +7hp pending cycle time (ref Table 1)

    The .46 number is for a truck under no accessory load and at low speed idle. Current trucks have idle timers on them and you have to bump the cruise to 900-1000 rpm to bypass it. Being this example is on a low speed idle unit, 600-700 rpm, and no accesory load I don't think it is a good example. Not too mention much of this data is 10 years old.
    I don't want the thread to digress into a back and forth over this issue. I will be testing out some things when I am solo with goal of keeping idle time under 10% and keeping reasonably comfortable.

    I am really hoping Knight calls me this week to get orientation scheduled. I need to get dates on the books soon to line up my PTO.

    I saw a comment about ventilation and bugs. Check our Breezeway screens. They are available for all makes and models of trucks. I plan on getting some for myself sometime. They snap into your open window and keep out bugs and provide much needed ventilation.

    I am not arguing the matter further. I will looking at solutions to keep idle below 10% while staying reasonably comfortable.

    Hey rookie, if you want raw numbers, why don't you, I don't know, ask the people who drive the friggin' trucks in the first place? Have fun with the iShift trucks.

    Knight trucks are not ishift. They have 9 speed manuals. And your post doesn't add to the conversation.

    Me thinks you should talk less and listen more. ALL NEW VOLVO's at Knight are ishift. 50% of the Cascadia Evo's are automatics as well. Not hearsay, I've seen them with my own two eye's lettered up and ready to roll in Tulare and Phoenix.
