Well, I do know some places lost major accounts in the last year or so, but not sure how cutting 200 is going to meet their "increase 50% in 5 years" plan.

Will you keep the "Leasing on with knight" thread in the Ask an owner operator section or will open up a new one there?

I'll start a new one. I go to orientation Tuesday and should be on the road Wednesday.

Do you think going to Knight would be a bad idea?
Are you saying it's going to get bad everywhere for Knight?

I am an experienced driver and could go other places but I like that they are close and they can get me home to here in Mobile. Other companies have a hard time doing that.

I am just curious about the hammer falling.

Less payroll going out, less maint on buildings and prop. Still the same amount of freight moving and around the same amount of trucks. Knight is pushing hard for Profit and profit only at this point.

When your company is trading down on Wall St. investors need constant reassurance that the company's bottom line is getting better, they always need to show growth to keep investors happy.

Now that it looks like the US economy is stalling because of a slowdown in China and Europe there is no way they can meet that 50% growth promise. Unfortunately the easiest way for corporate to show positive stock growth is by cutting payroll.

I didn't even know we had a terminal in Arkansas, it's not listed on their website or in any of the paperwork I got when I signed on. If it's not an official terminal maybe it was trying to be and if it didn't work out Knight just cut them loose. Not sure why, like I said I didn't even know they were there.

Drivers earn their keep by the way we are paid. A bunch of people in the office and the shop are a bigger burden to a company payroll since they still have to be paid no matter how much freight is running out of that area. Not sure how busy it is in AR but I have never delivered or picked up a load there. Gulfport is near some major ports and on the I-10 corridor. Personally I'm still hitting a minimum of 2,800 mile a week and supposedly this is the slow time of the year. I think as long as you keep the shiny side up they will always need drivers.

This terminal was in operation for almost 4 years. With one customer last year we did 4.2 million dollars out of my terminal. That is with one customer. Arkansas is VERY busy with reefer freight. I think it was more political than business that shut us down. I have reasons for thinking that but will not say but one. Memphis handled our recruiting and during my time there Memphis did not send one new recruit to Springdale. Any new recruits we got were through driver referrals. Memphis kept all new recruits to themselves and severely limited the potential of my terminal to grow and add trucks.

I think I will be ok with miles. I have never really had problems with miles anywhere. I do what I am supposed to do and I do not complain.
