    Hello All,

Stumbled upon this forum via Google when I was looking for truck satilites! Sooooo glad I did.:biggrin_25519:

This might be long so prepare yourself.......

I'm kind of worried about going to driving school for several reasons. First of all I have a 4 year old son, but have a supportive ex-husband who said we could try to do skype/facetime/whatever else we needed to do so Peyton could see mommy. How does trucking life with children work for you??

Secondly, I show horses. I'm presently employed in the equine world however the economy has taken a swan dive and I am just NOT making ANY money. In order to keep showing my ponies I MUST find a job that pays decent that doesn't require anything more than a HS diploma as I have ZERO college. So does any present (or new drivers for that matter) feel they are making good money?? Keeping in mind I'm use to 1200/mth (or less as the case as been for over a year now).

Now with the whole show horse thing. I don't show often. I usually show enough to qualify for the World show then I don't anymore. I don't run for year end high point or anything like that so I don't require much more than 3 or 4 shows between Sept 1st and Aug 31st. And I have 1 LARGE circuit show I like to attend besides my breed's World show. Can this work for a trucking life?!?! After Worlds and into April (which is when shows kinda get going here and when weather is better to travel for ponies) I can be a work-a-holic, however I want to do this to support my pony lifestyle!

Yes I know, I ramble on, but my head is spinning. I'm a worry wart by nature. I have NEVER drove anything bigger than an F350 with a 4 horse trailer!!!!!! I'm afraid I'm gonna kill someone!! Or myself..........(which I'm accident prone).

I hope someone can give me a little advice and guidance here. I'm not a sissy city girl. I'm use to working hard and long hours to boot, but I know I'm going to miss my son and horses dearly. :biggrin_2557:

Thank you in advance for any help!!

    Best Regards,
    Nadia

if you have custody of the child, your hubby can use this against you, as you will not be home often.

if you show horses, you will not be home often, then also, who would take care of them..??

in trucking, many times, one only needs a heartbeat......... brains, pulse, home-life, GED , HS Diploma, college education take a back seat...

well ok, at the very least a GED....

trucking IS NOT for people with little kids. your chances of finding work close to home what we call local will be extremely tough.

and just because the horse show circuit took a nose dive, do you realistically think ALL other occupations are doing great...??? trucking takes even a BIGGER nose dive in bad economy's......

and so what you drive a350 / trailer, aren't you afraid to kill someone in that, especially the horses.....???

what makes you think this way...???? makes no sense to me..if you are careless IN ANY VEHICLE, you're gonna kill someone...right...????

i think you would be better served to stay at home and be in the horse business......since you will miss your son and your horses....trucking is not for you, just because you think you ain't making no money now, trucking IS NOT everyone's personal savior from hardships.......then get out of it when things get better in your former trade.....

Well you could sell the kid and make a few bucks and that would pay for trucking school!

My wife has been into horses all her life and that is the reason we drove over the road in the first place. We wanted to save up money to buy a farm. After many years of experience driving we drove for a commercial horse carrier. My wife loved it! We were constantly at horse shows and all the tracks. We also got to go to the Kentucky derby behind the scenes. We finally retired from trucking and built our horse training facility and now that is our business. Maybe in the future when your son is older you can try something like this. Another suggestion would be to start off small. Buy a small horse trailer and do horse hauling around your town or state. Look into it on the internet.

Welcome to the forum and good luck to you!
