I am going to school to get my CDL. Both Swift and Stevens have contacted me and said im good to go. I have read alot of bad things about both companies in the forum. Which one would be my best option for training? The following is most important to me:

    1: Good Training
2: I need miles. I have a child to support. I dont want to sit around doing nothing waiting for freight
    3: Good truck

Please tell me who i should choose and why. Thank you

    Scott

Are they the only 2 that you have to choose from?? There should be a lot of other options out there unless you have a shady past or live in a low freight area.

I live in the Denver area. Swift and Stevens are the two that place most of the ads here. Werner has a school here but are asking $9k. I dont have anything negatives in my past.

Stevens has WAY better trucks, and pays more than Swift, and has a better reputation than Swift, home time for both is about the same. I say Stevens.

Recruiter for both said they start at .26 cpm. Not sure which one gets raises faster. And which one gives more miles to the newbees

Stevens is .26 once you go solo until 6 months, then .028, at nine months it is .29 and at 1 year it is .30

Miles will come as you prove yourself, but I have only had 1 week below 2000 miles other than weeks I went home, and my average is around 2800 per week. It started in the neighborhood of 22 - 2300 per week, bbut as you prove yourself able and willing to run loads and make on time delivery, that increases.

My first solo run was 1450 miles, but it was a 5 day 5 stop load too.

I can not speak for Swift.

I have been here over a year, and I am not actively seeking another place. That is not to say I wouldn't listen to another offer, but I am not looking.

It has its good and bad points, I like to travel and be on the go, I have hit 46 of the lower 48 in the year I have been here, so I am happy with that.
