I'm approved by Pumpkin and Werner and Con-Way. I'm trying to go back to ltl/food service to get home daily.

The job is with truckload not freight. I applied to freight just recently so hopefully I will get that too and be able to go with that. I am making a major effort to go ltl/local which is what I used to do in the 90's. I will be a newlywed and I have young daughters (from previous marriage) don't want to be gone weeks at a time if I can avoid it. I know Con-Way said if I start with truckload I can switch to freight after a yr but I also know freight trains noncdl folk so gonna try to go freight first. -
Be aware if going LTL. Being at the bottom of the seniority lists sucks. Sometimes I get a call telling me to stay home because there is either not enough freight or, not enough tractors because some are in the sbop. Frequently my start time gets pushed back to 11 am instead of my normal time which is 9am. Usually the equipment for city drivers is crap, linehaul gets the nice rigs. City drivers do drive linehaul rigs as well but there are 20 linehaul rigs for my company but we have 40 city drivers. Some companies do keep up with the "industry standard" there are some good ltl companies, just not the one I work for. Coming home with a 5 or $600 check is not good enough for me.
I recently applied to a local coming who is in need of 2 otr drivers. They're drivers average 3000 miles, trucks are governed at 67. Pay starts at. 37 per mile (hub miles) . Sunday night go to Missouri, come back, then go to. Either Cali, texas, or somewhere on the east coast and be home by friday for the weekend off. All trips are to point A and then back. 1 week vaction after 6mos, 2 after a year. 401k match, christmas bonus. I turned in my application and they gave me a interview and road test right away. I was able to do them both thein same day because my lovely ltl job pushed my start time back. Oh and equipment are freightliner cascadias pulling a dry van. This particular company is in the pet industry. Dog/cat food and everthing elase that comes with it, and specialize in items for farm animals. The otr manager drove for the company for 20+ years so he know what it's like out there, he is also otr dispatch and occasionally hops in his rig and do some loads as well. If I don't like otr, they have regional, linehaul, and city delivery as well. THEY ARE AT THE TOP OF MY LIST. will see what happens next week. -
Oh and east coast trips pay a extra 3 cpm. They send you to where you want to go. They only have one driver going east beacuse he don't mind to.

BigMod34 Thanks this.

2 weeks on with 3 days off isn't bad at all either. Crete is 3 weeksdays on 3 days off, also pays 44cpm. From what I hear, small local companies usually have they're drivers home for the weekend.

I was looking at Crete and they require you to be out for 28 days at a time as OTR.
The money seems great, but I don't know if I would be able to be away from home for that long at a time to only come back and have like 3 days off.
