If you don't take orders very well how are you going to handle being in one of the more regulated industries in this country?

Well day 2 of orientation is in the books...First of all my horoscope said this today "You need to rethink a few things and change how you're looking at them because their isn't a problem with anything around you except your perspective. Every so often you slip into this pessimism and it takes the whole day to think positively. Just remember life isn't always black and white."
That so hit home for me today because yesterday was tough for me. But today was much better. I think it was the fact that it was Monday morning and people just weren't feeling it. I learned alot today from orientation and got more down to earth answers from the same people with some of the same questions I asked yesterday. One thing I did recognize is that I will learn how to do things the right way and safely at Swift. A LOT of videos today it was hard not falling asleep even though I did dose off on a couple of them lol. The drivers hanging around the lounge were even more talkitive today and I learned alot from them as to what to expect being a swift driver. One guy did get thrown out of the class today (wasn't me) but he was a bit of a weirdo and would say the most inapproporiate things at the worst of times. There is always a time to joke and a time to be serious he didn't know how to seperate the 2 and he's no longer there. I made it through day 2, hope I make it through the last day to get coded, get a mentor and get out on the road, although I don't think we will be leaving tomoro because I saw at least 4-5 guys hanging around with duffle bags looking like they were waiting to get trainers too. So I'm hoping for tomoro but expecting thursday. -

Darkknight, hubby has been out for four weeks and seems tired but happy. Finally got his permanent truck. And its a really nice one. Miles are up until the storms today (he took pictures of the tornado about 100 feet from his truck). Overall a good experience. Hang tough and you will be solo before you know it.
darkknight5179 Thanks this. -
I know I will be fine just have to make the best out of it my dad (who is a chef btw) is making me some small food items to take with me so I can save a little money the first week. Posts like that homegirl make it seem bearable. I can survive 4-6 weeks and get in my own truck so I can go to phase 2 of my plan, Im just keeping my fingers crossed that I will get a good trainer I get along with hopefully the odds will be in my favor

No matter what it could be worse. You could have been with Schnieder out of Lancaster. My husband watched their trailors fly thru the air with the greatest of ease.....

****UPDATE*****
Sorry haven't been able to post in a while but wanted to come to this thread and update my journey. The night before I was supposed to leave with my swift mentor my son got extremely sick and I could not leave then, the people at swift were very understanding. I was told to make sure my family was ok before going on the 6 week road trip. The following day I received a phone call from a flatbed company out of East Chicago, IN that I had applied to back in February I had interviewed well in feb and the guy really liked me but the problem was I didn't have any experience and he couldn't get the insurance to approve me. But he told me he would keep trying to push me through just check back with him from time to time (i've heard that one before lol). Anyway fast forward to April 5th I got a call from the terminal manager in East Chicago, he had called to inform me that the company had expanded and they now had a training program he had remembered my interview and said he really liked what he saw in me and thought I was a good fit for the company and he was asking if I was still looking for a job, of course I said yes (because Swift was the last place I wanted to go mainly because of 25cpm that was just slave wages as far as I was concerned). He told me to come in the following Wednesday for a second interview. I went to the second interview he explained what the company is all about what they deliver (flatbed running mainly usg loads i.e. drywall, mud, construction materials etc.) and then asked me if I wanted the job I said YES!!! When I was walking out of the yard I saw 3 more people who graduated with me so I felt really good about it. The following evening I began my training. Training was great had a good teacher he had been driving for 15yrs all of which have been with this company. Now I'm done with training, 1 week of training btw because I was already pretty good at driving once my trainer saw how quickly I got used to the truck he said training usually took 2-3 weeks but he was pretty sure I could get out of training in 7-10 days if I kept doing what I was doing which I did. So now as of today I love the company I'm with the worst part about it is that its flatbed(but all my loads are already strapped, chained, and tarped when I pick them up I might have to add cross straps in the very front or the very back) I'm home every night or every other night at the worst off every weekend (because they are closed on weekends) only run IL, WIS, IA, IN, MI, MN, PA, KY and making the money I was looking to make every week. Thank God for putting me in an ideal situation
