Congrats on your new job! My other half never worked for swift... Just Arnold and a few years back for Knight. Not much money brought home from either. Being out 10-14 days at a time and food gets quite expensive. I started packing 14 breakfast, lunches and suppers for him to take out. (he got tired of vienna and beanie wennies! Now is is with Bean Brothers Trucking. Home every other night with a dedicated run from SC to Ky. Straight there, 10 hour break and straight back. The pay is 21.48 an hour and thank god no cpm! That pay also includes insurance (4.28 an hour up to 40hrs to cover your insurance). Now he brings home a steady check every two weeks of about 1500.00.. and he is home more often which is where i need him! I know the pay may not seem like it at 750.00 a week but it's steady and he doesn't sit and wait on runs or pre-plans or sleep in the truck anymore. An apt is provided by the company for his 10 hour break. I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST!

Thanks for the warm wishes and hopefully this time next year I will be back sleeping in my own bed every night which is my ultimate goal. It won't be a huge problem for me right now going otr as my oldest daughter is 13 and understands dad has to go make that money, so she can get the things she asks for because I reward my children for getting good grades and she is a consistant honor roll student. My oldest son is 11 and he can go with me on the road in the summer once I get done with training hopefully and thats right up his alley he likes doing things like that. My youngest son is 3 and living in Boston with his mother until she finishes school wich will be anywhere from 6 months to a year. My dad will take care of my house while I'm gone and my cousin will be in charge of having my car finished up so I got a window to go out here and get the experience that I need to get so I can move into a home every night job. Which hopefully I can do by the time winter hits. I dont have a girlfriend or wife so no problems on that end its all about the money to get me and my kids what we need and want

so you are saying that you get 400 - 500 if u go home but if you stay out and run then you're clearing about 950 Im just trying to be clear on what you posted.

If Home Time is not a big priority... and I am willing to stay longer periods on the road 4 to 6 weeks -- can you make that turn that into bigger paychecks and home times of 4 to 5 days off? In your opinion or experience?
Or is it all the same?

From what I understand the longer you run the more money you will make. so if your out 4-6 wks at a time then take home will be nice for those 4-6 wks but the weeks you go home then your check will take a hit so basically your paying for your home time with a smaller check. This is just my opinion I wont actually know for a fact until I get through with training and run on my own

I stay out 2-3 months myself, if you keep the downtime to a minimum you keep a nice flow of money coming in. When I take off its for 4-5 days, I setup my home day to fall usually on a Wendsday so I get home that day but usually deliver so that night is a freebie, and then take 4 full days off and come back on Monday. When I come back there will be a very small check coming the following week, so there is your pay interruption. I don't plan on doing this a long time, it's mainly for saving to buy some equipment I need, then I'll go back to 4 weeks out, 4 off. It's nice coming home with another 7-8 grand in my pocket after all the expensive road stuff.

    .

Thanks for your post, that is my plan... I am 53 and I want to do this for 13 years and build up a retirement account and take advantage of the tax credit of 8k... and drive a big rig (I always wanted to...).

And every two months... a very nice 5 days off... surf and turf.

Yea thats my plan to after training is to run as hard as I possibily can for 6 months spend very minimal time at home for the first 6-8 months then once I build my bank account back up reevaluate my situation and either look to relocate or try and find me a home every night job. So from I'm seeing and hearing is that if you run hard then you can make the money you want to make. At any company
