I have to stay positive because being out on the road away from home is hard enough. And again like any rookie you have to go through your hazing process so if I go in negative it will be the longest 6 months of my life. So I look at it as a opprotunity to see parts of the country Ive never been too and finish my shot glass collection lol. Ive been told theres a dedicated route I can go right into after my training so hopefully I wasn't lied too and can get this dedicated route. What area do you guys live in? Has he asked about dedicated yet?

We live where folks bleed orange.. good ole rocky top Tennessee. Originally from Toledo though. There are some dedicateds this way but none open at this time. Wouldn't be bad if he headed north though because we still have family up there.

Tennessee huh? I'll be there in just a few days. Only ever drove through there. The "shuttle" picks ppl up at 2, and I am to arrive there at 2:30 (after a day and 6 hour bus ride) so I might take the 3 hours and walk around memphis. Would be nice to have some extra cash to spend, but window shopping will have to do. Maybe I'll see Elvis. I know he is down there hiding ;)

I am so excited for Sat to leave here.
    Ok, so your thoughts:
Wife and I are having a debate. My "handle" of Bipolar bear. You think people will take it as meant to be "bipolar-bear" or as she laughs at me and says "bi-polarbear". She said ppl gonna say I am a polar bear that swings both ways. I said it took me 2 hours to come up with this handle, now I am thinking of sitting down for another 2 and coming up with a fresh one.

I even been practicing... "Breaker ONE NINE breaker ONE NINE this is Bipolarbear come in" lol. Ok, It's 1 a.m., I been up for way too long I am getting goofy.

Hubby did orientation at Memphis. Hotel he said was okay. Not a lot around it though so I doubt you will see Elvis. I thought your handle was clever but your wife knows you best. It is a long process so make sure you enjoy your time at home before you go. Not trying to sound whinney but it can be lonely as the life of a truckers wife. Make sure you pack some snacks. Food gets expensive.

Yeah, wife and I have an interesting relationship. Love each other dearly, but will go days without seeing each other. I am in my "Man cave" on my computer doing programming, she'll come home from work, plop on the couch and watch TV till she falls asleep lol. So we'll be good in that aspect. As to the snacks, I heart they got a stove, and a walmart near by... Ramien Noodles here we come!!!!

Hubby and I were somewhat the same way but it was strange knowing he isn't here. Love your comment about telemarketers.

I had to laugh at hotel. Was reading their "brochure" online website. Pool, breakfast each morning, fitness center, wifi in every room. I thought, boy this will be nice. So I called to make sure wifi was free.

Here was shortened version of phonecall:

Thanks for calling the motel....Hi, I'll be staying with you guys for Swift school and was wondering if the Wifi in the room is free.
Her: Actually your room doesn't have wifi, but you have access to wifi in public ares.
Me: ok, and the continental breakfast, what all is included?
Her: The continental breakfast isn't part of our deal with Swift, so you won't get any.
    Me: Can I purchase it?
Her: Yes for $5. And it includes cereal, bagels, and coffee. (Wow, not worth $5).
Me: Ok, and is the pool open up yet this time of year?
Her: due to federal regulations, we're not going to be opening the pool.
Me: ahh, ok. What about the fitness center?
Her: We don't have one. (though it says they do).
Me: (after finding out it's 40 miles from Memphis) Is there a shuttle to take you to Memphis?
her: No shuttles, but you can get a taxi, but it's about $100 round trip.
Me: Is there anything to do there that I can google and plan what to do?
Her: No, we are a small town and don't even have a movie theater.

Sigh. This can all be confirmed. Look at their website. It says they have EVERYTHING listed above. Then call and ask, they either don't have it, or we just don't get access to it. Looks like my Kindle is taking a ride.

I need to take my Laptop, and my kindle for reading. I am wondering if I can leave them at the front desk so roommates don't take them, or if roommates will be away same time that I am?

I went to Millington. Several people brought lap tops and no one had one go missing. Most of the time you are on the same schedule as your room mates.

Also, not far from the Admirality Inn AKA Swift School Flop House there is a Ryan's next door, other fast food within walking distance. A Fred's right across the street, Dollar stores, a Walmart, etc. Someone will drive and offer rides to other students for shopping, etc. You get a real sense of cooperation from most guys going through this journey because it is new to them as well.

If you find any former drivers coming back to get their CDL listen to them. They aren't being negative...they are just being HONEST about life on the road. It isn't for everyone. With a good attitude you can make it a very enjoyable job and career, but it can be tough...especially when you sit.

You had me at Ryans....OMG!!! I used to live in Chambersburg, PA (about 3 hours from here). And I LOVED their buffet. I promised my wife to only order out once a week. Looks like I'll have to order out once a week and go to Ryans once a week lol. I love Ryans. They are sooooo yummy. You TOTALLY just made my decision worth it lol. I was like hrmm, I think I made the right call, but knowing that I can go to wally world for Ramien noodles, and that laptop is safe, AND there is a Ryans, ####, am signed up. :)
