Well after months of going back and forth with the wife on the decision I finally got her to agree to let me start driving. The catch is that I have to let her "free" lease a horse from one of our friends.. Sounded like a fair trade to me :biggrin_255: Last night I put in an app with Swift (I know about their rep and all but kinda my best option) After talking to the recruiter this morning I should find out in the next 24-48hrs if I get the thumbs up or not....

I was trying to figure something out that caught my attention after getting off of the phone with them.. The recruiter stated that the class in ID is 18 days?? Everything that I have read says that it is supposed to 23? does anyone know if this is because I am in Oregon since she did say that I'd go to ID for 18days then get a ride to OR for the actual CDL testing?

Anyways wish me luck LOL in gettin on with them along with luck in driving for swift LOL... BTW any Swifties from Salem OR on here by any chance that can give me an insight as to how it is to driver for them?

    Thanks Baack ....

well 24hrs down since recruiter said will find something out in 24-48 hours LOL .... I HATE WAITING for answers on things LOL ... I know patience is a virtue and for the most part am pretty good with it, but when it comes to a job change... let alone a career/life style change it just drives me batty !!!!!

Yipppeeeeeeeee... after calling the recruiter back today (was at about the 47.5hr mark LOL) they were waiting on my Oregon MVR but was going to be delayed to get it so I emailed the copy that I had gotten about a month ago or so... The recruiter said that she don't see any reason they wouldn't hire me so to go ahead and get my permit then give them a call back to get set up for schooling :biggrin_255::yes2557::biggrin_2553:

did you ask them if you are obligated to stay with them for a period of time due to you getting your license with them, if you dont how much will you have to pay back or will they hold your completion certificate?

Nope.. But from everything that I have read from on here and their site it works out that for the first 13months they take 150/mth to pay for the schooling then the next 13 months they give you 150/mth to repay you for the schooling. And if you leave before the first 13 months I have read that you have to pay (if I remember right) $300 for each month before the 13 that you have left.

As far as the completion certificate not sure if you are meaning the CDL or just a certificate saying you completed schooling. But for the CDL as far as I know it works out that you go to their academy for 18 days and then you will be taken to your state of residence to take the state skills test for the actual CDL.. This is what the recruiter had told me about the process for aquireing the CDL ...

For me in my situation I am not too concerned with the whole leaving early or the tuition stuffs... My main thing was to find a way to get my CDL again with out having to find a way to pay upfront along with having a place to go to get "current" experience from again. The way I see it is if I were to get a loan for schooling or even a refresher course the cost would be about the same and either way would have to repay so this is really a means to postpone shelling out the money let alone shelling it out and still not finding anything since no current experience.

i'm glad to see that they explained the way they operate with the schooling and repayment. good luck and be patient with your driving these big trucks. i learned myself to wait that extra minute and it is paying off, you will see you will be more confident in yourself. thank you for replying

    No Problem P ...

As for the patience to wait the extra minute to be confident in driving the big trucks isn't something I am worried about... For me the Swift Schooling will just be an over priced refresher course since I have previous experience.. I even have prevous experience pulling oversized loads (heavy and wide) from Yuma AZ to Salinas CA both on the grape vine as well as Tejon and ummmm dang forget the other grade by barstow... Cajon or something like that... And have pulled a hand full of equipment into downtown San Fran (I was our only driver that could tolerate driving in San Jose or San Fran' traffic).... its always fun to have to make a right turn from a little 2 lane onta a smaller 1 lane with cars parked on both sides of the street right up to the corners LOL
