Anyone got any good deals on tool kits lately? Have a smaller set that I want to upgrade but not too big to carry in truck. What do you guys have? Really need something in its own case with not a lot of room.

Maybe something like this https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-250-Piece-Mechanic-s-Tool-Set-in-4-Drawer-Case/5001920933

Works great for me and I have added some different size vice grips, screw drivers and a crescent wrench to finish it out. -
Harbor freight, but the actual ratchets I throw away and upgrade to something slightly better, have a separate bag with an extra set of wrenches, electrical, vise grips adjustable etc,

I use a bag with the sockets on a rail .
the cases they sets always come in just take up too much space and have a zillion tools you won’t ever use .
dozens of separate Allen wrenches are useless. And get lost easily.
I buy the Allen wrenches that are on the flip out thing so you don’t have loose ones everywhere
and the separate wrenches , won’t ever be used once you buy a set of flex head gear wrenchesSiinman Thanks this. -

I bought a set at Costco last month
~$100 for a good size set. The case is thin enough to slide behind the seat in my small truck
Costco stuff isn't the same as regular retail outlets, but it looked pretty close to this:

Mechanic's Tool Set, 301 Pc.
This is a good kit to start with. I've had no problems with the ratchets. The pliers and snips get bound up and have to be lubricated or broken loose sometimes if it gets rusty. The T27 torx bit was slightly deformed when I bought it, but all of the other tools have served me well. The flexible adapters and extensions come in handy for hard to reach places.
There are a few socket sizes that are skipped once you get above 20mm. You'll probably also want to add a breaker bar for the 1/2" if you plan on replacing air bags, shocks, and other large bolts that can get bound up easily. I would suggest getting larger wrenches since they only go up to 5/8" and 15mm. Some parts like NOx sensors can get pretty stubborn, and I wouldn't trust an adjustable wrench on them if it would even fit.
If you just want to do lights or a license plate bracket or something, you could get away with the smaller kit. The 301 pc isn't really light and small, but it's not unmanageable, either.Siinman Thanks this. -
