I am not to worried about the being away , but the first initial 2 months is gonna be rough on the familly that's why I am curious about it . Right now my sons birthday is coming in november , and if I go to them now I prolly will not be home for his birthday . I know its not just a career its a lifestyle that the whole familly will have to get used to .

And skibum_63 . I have learned in my past they all lie to ya it don't matter what ya do weather its a 9to5 or whatever ,they all tell u what u want to hear .. lol :biggrin_25525:

I'm thinking about going to Prime also. Do anyone know any other company sponsored schools out there. I was told that there are not none good one's and I can't afford regular truck driving school to expensive. I'm a women looking into truck driving, so if any one know a good company sponsored truck driving school send me a list from good to you don't won't to go there list. I'm from Texas.

I am in the same boat, I have done tons of research on some of the other companies who do company training and to me most of them sound a little scary for a new pearson coming into this industry.
Read some of the other threads about Prime and that will probably help you make up your mind .
They have lots of good advantages from what I have read.

Well then you're in for a pleasant change. Just don't be substituting your words in for what is said, and you'll be fine.

Got a question , I have been seeing people talking about comdata checks and lumper slips ... what are they ? I seen people talking about seals too , I am guessing seals are the door seals for the trailer.

    mje Thanks this.

Comdata provides financial services for the trucking industry. A comcheck is a business check that is more secure than a normal check since it must be authorized. Money is put on the account attached to your fuel card, you call in and authorize the check. We use them to pay for services on the road.

Lumpers are an evil scam foisted on the industry in the dim past. Need a trailer unloaded? Hire a lumper to pull the stuff off, and sort it for counting. You pay him with a comcheck. Some receivers do it as part of their business... as they should. Others resort to this common scam. Prime would prefer that you don't unload your own trailer, for a couple of reasons... including not getting their drivers injured, and they'd rather that you get some sleep so your ready to go.

Loks like IP missed the seals questions, lol. Yes seals are door seals, also inspection doors get seals at times, depends on the shipper. If a shipper does not place a seal on the trailer then it is the driver responsibility to do such. In fact when you do your departure msg and departure call you will be asked for the seal nbr. If in route to the receiver the seal comes off or is pulled off it must be reported as such and have a new seal placed on it.

You are also responsible for keeping the lock on the trailer door at all times. And yes you have to buy the lock set that Prime has at the store. In fact you will not be able to leave the yard on your 1st load with a trailer unless you have a lock on it. Now this is for Company drivers, L/O I am not sure about but I think the same policy applies to them.

    Hope this helps

Cool thanks for the info. I would like to learn about some of the little things before I go into this . That way I have an idea of how these things work so I am not clueless. I know that there are many more things to learn .

    Again thanks for your help!
