So i currently have my Doubles/Triples and Tanker endorsement

So im aware of the ELDT requirement course ahead of time (how long does that take to be submitted to DOT and does the course submit or do I have to call or email to DOT?)

I already have my tanker endorsement so is the hazmat tanker a seperate thing? (X) endorsement? Is hazmat test just for general hazmat freight and hazmat tank is seperate?

Does that just combine the tanker and hazmat like ive been told and both are good or is it just for hazmat tanks? Im confused on the whole thing and wanna make sure my ducks are in a row before I even walk in the door sorry if it seems stupid theres not a ton on it and i want clarification to make sure im doing it right before I even go in the door

You will need to study some....for the hazmat test.

Read/review the hazmat section(s) of your state's CDL driver manual.

Then....take some practice tests. Some tests are available here on the Forum. Others are available (for free) on the web. I never paid for any of mine; you shouldn't have to, either.

The hazmat endorsement is also a background check -- so you will need to go somewhere to be fingerprinted. I'd wait for the background check to come back with the 'ok' status -- BEFORE taking the actual test at your nearest DMV office.

Between the background check, the tests...& the associated fees -- expect to spend about $100....or maybe a little more.

Spend the money -- it's worth it. The endorsement will open more, higher-paying gigs for you -- especially if you already have the tanker endorsement.

I heard TWIC card knocks down the background check to $41 (not for sure how accurate that is but still) what ive calculated with the addition of changing my license to update and show endorsement $131

I got my passport, TWIC, CCW so i should easily clear the ok

Definitely my end goal trucking is to move up to hazmat tank and stick somewhere, already love tanker freight, plus jobs already dangerous cant get much worse and i drive safe as possible so why not

Also: ask your state's DMV office if you are required to take a hazmat class of any type.

    I was grandfathered in....before this class/course became a requirement.

When you get the Hazmat endorsement on your license, the "T" for tanker will go away and be replaced by the "X"- Hazmat/Tanker. With that, you can pull Hazmat in tanks or any other type of trailer.
The Eldt requirement can be done online and isn't real pricy.
my understanding of the Fingerprinting/background check is that you get the discounted rate only if you are doing the check for TWIC and Hazmat at the same time. Since you are not, you will probably have to pay the full amount again.
