Someone on here asked about ARNOLD. The answer to this question might be coming a bit late, but perhaps it will be useful for future candidates.
The orientation itself is very pleasant (at Camp Hill in PA). The instructor is very friendly and wishes well for everyone. There is couple of written tests, including hazmat test. They feed you and accommodate you.
The Administrative Office people are also helpful and friendly.
At the Terminal they have Shower for drivers, Launch Room, Wash and Drier, Vending machines, etc
Now the troublesome part begins:
As you may notice on their web page, there are pay rates per/mile
In reality, they are giving you lower pay, claiming the page is not updated.
Mind you, the already lowered pay scale is the same for all miles: weather you run Short mileage or Longer mileage.
Years of your documented experience doesnt seem to count at all.
Short mileage could be 50 or 100 miles and the Long one are approx. 300 miles.
Their most common trips are between 200-300 miles.
At least for the drivers that are just starting with them.
If you think that you get what you see on their web site, such super regional, it wont happen. When asked, they react like such a thing doesnt exist.
Many of Arnolds loads are Night pick ups/delivery.
The commodities are Consumer goods lot of food loads; Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Procter & Gamble
If you are not the night person (with nocturnal vision), these kind of loads could be a pain for you.
And most accidents happen at night. And they do happen at Arnolds.
Dont expect any human interaction with Dispatchers. They are like robots, filling the blanks at their computer screen; matching available truck with available load.
You are just a Unit Number
It is your business how you match the Log Book with a Qualcomm notifications.
That is a whole new chapter
If you match everything correctly your weekly gross will be approx. $500
As per veterans bragging; they sort of squeeze the log book to make more loads and thus increase weekly profit to about $700-800
Anybody can fix a log book, but what about if accident happens to you? You times will be check with the fine comb!
I guess, most are taking that risk in order to make that $700-800, because in reality, you can make only 5 loads per week x $100/per load (approx.) = $500 minus Deductions!
You do get your 6-th Day Off like a Swiss Watch; however you dont necessarily be home. For example; a guy is from GA. He is working within NY-NJ radius circle. Does have Day/per week Off, but he never saw a home in a month.
