I had my truck derate on me the other day and got to thinking it might be worth my while to invest in a code reader.

Are there any out there that will allow me to override the derate to get me further down the road to a shop?

Let me know what I should look into. I have an old Zurich ZRHD1 but it doesn't do anything like that.

If it were me id get a cheap laptop and dongle and just get the cummins insite or their free guidanz software. It will work a hell of a lot better. I recomend insite though. I got my license from my local distributer for $800ish (id need to find the recipt) and its a hell of a lot better tool.

Same thing the dealer has and if you can connect it to the web it even has step by steps on how to replace servicr or patch #### near everything

I use this one Nexiq USB Link 3 Wired Edition with Diagnostic Software and Repair Inf

I got it back when i had a paccar and it happens to have an adapter for the ISX socket. However you can buy one directly from any cummins distributer for a hell of a lot cheaper. As for a laptop i use my gaming laptop currently but in the past i picked up a $250 dell outlet laptop and used that for the longest time. You can likely go to a pawnshop and get an elchepo for like $100 that will do the job.

And yea i was shocked when i got insite how detailed it was. Even my davie 4 required an upgraded 10k a year sub to get a 10th of what insite gives you for #### near free. Cummins is awsome like that.

Granted the software the drewlinq and laptop come in around $2000 but its well worth it to be able to work on your truck the same as a dealer. Also head over to the rawze forum. They have a TON of good info on how to maintain those emissions systems on the X15 as well as a cummins god over there who can give advice on #### near anything. I followed the guide one of them posted for my ISX and ive had all of 1 check emissions lights it was just a clogged sensor the forum had info on how to pull and clean that fixed it right up with a regen.

Amazon.com: for Cummins Inline 7 Data Link Adapter Truck Diagnostic Tool with Insite 8.7 9.0 Software Inline7 Diesel Truck Diagnostic Scanner (Tool with Insite 9.0) : Automotive

Could I just get something like this that comes with the insite and hook it up to my laptop?

It MIGHT work but a lot of those are ripped copys. That and since i bought mine from the dealer i have zero experince with off brands or alternate copys. So i cant give good advice here.

OTR Diagnostic App works well on X15. IMO the $600/yearly subscription fee more than pays for itself after just one use.
