I see people complaining about "crap loads", can someone please enlighten me on what exactly a "crap load" is? Assume, rookie, company driver.

Short miles. Crap shipper or receiver that you know ahead of time you'll sit there for 6 hours on a good day waiting to get loaded/unloaded. A load that delivers in 4 days when it takes 2 days to get there. Getting an appointment that has a range, like 12:00-22:00, as you won't be getting detention until 24:00 and if they gave a range they most likely take forever. A 3000 lbs load that you have to drive across Wyoming in 50 mph winds with ice on the road.
If you're getting percentage pay you can apply all of the above plus whether or not the load actually pays.Mud Dog, Bill104, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would say a crap load is a heavy load going into a location that doesnt have much freight coming back out and a load that you would not be able to deliver early and say get load on Wednesday and is say 600 miles and have to sit on the load till Monday, as it is a holiday week. and a lot of places are shut down till Monday morning. that would definately be a crap load in my opinion.

wait that's a load of crap not a crap load. -
A 150 mile 3 stopper with 3 hrs between appointment times with an average 3 hrs unload at each.

For a new, rookie, company driver is it good advice to just take these "crap loads" and if so, for how long should one stomach them before hoping that you have shown enough fortitude to get a good one?

Any load looks good on paper, it's the logistics that might make it a "crap" load. In a perfect world, you get dispatched on a load 5 miles from where you just emptied out, with a couple hour window and across the street from a truckstop, so you can fuel and eat and then go get your load. You will back into the dock immediately and be offered a cup of coffee from the shipper, while he has you laoded in 20 minutes (with a 25000 lb payload). Since this shipper is directly next to the highway onramp, you just need to make 2 rights and you're on the road. At 10 am on sunday, traffic is light, right ? You have 4 days to cover your 2400 mile run and the consignee unloads 24/7 with no appointment needed. You will have no mechanical problems on this run, with plenty of time to eat and rest. Have fun !!!!!!
volvodriver01 and Mud Dog Thank this. -
Where do I sign up for that load? I will take it on a dedicated run.

Now that's some funny crap!
Also depends on the driver. For some, a load to NYC is a crap load. I personally think loads that like go from LA, CA to WA state and then back and forth are crap loads. 55mph speed limit the whole way and fuel prices are through the roof plus you are driving a lot of mountains and when you aren't in the mountains you're in traffic! For the most part like the other poster said it has to do with the logistics and getting set up for your next load. I'm sure once you are out there and have a few thousand miles under your belt you will have your own definition of what you think the crap loads are.
Bill104 Thanks this. -
