Most carriers seem to be laying off drivers or struggling to get loads to keep their drivers rolling. The economy is in the toilet and will be for the next year or so.
Union drivers are being laid off. Teamsters are agreeing to pay cuts to keep their jobs. Most companies are not even hiring anymore due to the fact there are more drivers and trucks than loads available.
You picked a terrible time to switch companies. If you do find a job then you will be low man on the totem pole and get what ever scraps are left from the senior drivers already employed at that company.
In some cases companies that are hiring are actually dropping the pay rate offers lower than they were just a few months back.
Veteran drivers with years of verifiable, safe driving experience have found themselves out of work for the first time in years due to their company going out of business altogether. You will be competing with these vets for what ever jobs are available. Good luck. -
HHhmmm........
If I understand you correctly, You quit your job without having any prospects lined up already?
Undrestanding what it is like to be sitting on occassion however, having a knee-jerk reaction is not necessarily the right option as suggested above by jlkklj777. With the way times are currently, rash decissions are not good.
6 months is not alot to make a breakaway career move. The industry/companies are dictated by the insurance carriers that cover their drivers. The levels or coverage for these companies have a trend of
1. New driver 0-6months exp.
2. 6-12 months
3. 12-24 months
4. 24- and beyond
As you look areound for the requirments of exp. yo will see timetables similar to this. With the majority in the category of #3-4.
You mentioned having a co-river to work with, that is a bonus. Team drivers appear that they are in a higher demand. However you still have to overcome the timeline exp. hurdle.
Good luck, and just a suggestion for the future look before you leap.
