I'll leave it to others to describe how they work. I've never had one and never will.

Since the system uses radar to detect another vehicle it's not possible for a shadow to trigger it.
I drove 6 months for a company that had it on their Volvos. It only tried to interfere if the cruise was set. I had a four-wheeler cut across my nose (to exit the interstate) which not only kicked the cruise off it actually applied the brakes. Sure got my attention!A21CAV Thanks this. -
It will also hit the brakes if you are passing a vehicle on a curve, you being on the inside lane.
As in, a slow vehicle in the right lane and you in the next lane to the left on a left hand curve.
It sees the other vehicle 'in front' of you and thinks you will hit it.
It will also trigger on a straight road if the vehicle in the right lane is going too slow.
Applying throttle as you are approaching will avoid the action, and I have learned to anticipate it. Or, simply turning off the cruise control when you are coming up on that type of situation.
I learned that within the first few days of having a truck with that system.
And it boggles my mind that so many drivers have yet to figure out the simple stuff.
Stop complaining so much, and just learn to deal with it! It really is not that difficult.JOHNQPUBLIC Thanks this. -
So I just completed the 'Driver Appreciation Week' survey.
I do not think they will like what I said.
I pretty much blasted them for making an 'event week' for showing their 'appreciation' of us, while at the same time treating us like children that need a babysitter at every turn.
My 'case in point' was that my DM now has to call me every day to make sure I know my route, that the weather is OK, that I am on time and so on.
PLEASE!!! After 7 years I have that covered, and we both do not need the added time and effort of wasted breath.
And he has to do this with 50 or so drivers EVERY day? Stupid!
Some drivers may need the attention, but I would imagine that it is just a few.
And I imagine he has better use for his time, like answering my phone call when I REALLY need something done.
This merger with Knight is starting to show some weaknesses in the new management, I think.A21CAV and JOHNQPUBLIC Thank this. -
I’m out of the Richmond terminal and back in the beginning of winter we had to call in to be dispatched on every load so that they could go over weather/etc., couldn’t just send a “Please dispatch on next load” freeform. Didn’t last long.

Is it normal for them to change your home terminal after you upgrade? I live in Ca and my HT was JV until I upgraded and they changed it to El Paso ( where my DM is)
-
When I started I was out of Fontana. After about 3 months I was transferred to Otay Mesa.
I was living in San Diego at the time.
Now I live in MN near IGH, but I like my DM at Otay so I have not moved it over. -
I've been wondering...
Does your home terminal have anything to do with the area you run as an OTR driver?
It didn't used to, but I'm not so sure anymore.
I used to be all over the country. I might get stuck in one area for a couple weeks, but always got out again to other areas.
But now it seems I am always running the far western portion of the country.
CA, WA, OR, ID, MT.
About the only times I leave that area is for a home time in CO or MN, but then I'm routed right back to that area.
It has been this way for months, and I am really sick of it. -
Well, at least you went to ID and MT. Been on CA, OR and WA route for months. Not complaining but the parking really sucks in WA.
