Drove first four months in 2024, so it was the end of April 2024. Lower 48 reefer for United Transport. By far my shortest stint ever at a job I liked. They kept me moving, and I had a great DM and truck. Amazingly they assigned me a brand new Cascadia when I arrived in late December 2023.
Paid for the truck wash and offered to pay for the detailing when I left so early, so I don't feel too bad about it, but my 2-week notice was abrupt and came as a surprise. Everything was going smoothly, with one major exception: due to low rates, they avoided sending trucks into the southwestern US. So it wasn't easy getting to Vegas. Since they had advertised the job in the Vegas craigslist, I resented this a bit. (Who looks for drivers where they don't go?)
My stint at Cheema lasted 3 1/2 years beginning in January 2020. Was just doing my job, then one day in November 2020 my DM excitedly told me the company started keeping track and I had more paid miles the previous month than anyone else in the whole company (300+ trucks). I saw how a driver could leverage such a reputation to get even more miles, so I did. Took 1st place most months in 2021 and 2022, usually beating 2nd by over 1000 miles. Three or four times I ran over 17K paid miles in a month in a truck governed at 65.
I don't expect to ever repeat that, but do hope to find a company that keeps its trucks rolling fairly well.bryan21384 Thanks this. -
Sounds like Cheema isn't a bad place to work.mathematrucker and Diesel Dave Thank this.

DOT Foods Transportation in Post #16; I'd go in person to Bullhead City to apply. The company has touch and no-touch positions.

Why don’t you look for a carrier that pays hourly instead of miles ? ISIA, ABF, etc, not JB or swifty type bottom feed carriers

I didn't notice you mention where exactly you are based out of... but if you are near eastern Idaho... You might check out Killpack Trucking out of Idahofalls, ID. They run reefers from Idaho to the mid west and back. Most runs average 6 to 8 days round trip and are generally around 3700 miles give or take. Reset at home (Idaho area) 99.99% of the time. Probably about a 60/40 split between live loads and D&H. Really easy going company to work for, they do have cameras (outward and inward) but don't hassle you about much if anything as long as you aren't doing anything stupid. I've never been asked or hassled about anything from my camera.

DOT Foods always rejects my application without explanation. I applied there twice while living in Laughlin (just across the river from Bullhead City). We're probably not a good match, so I never tried to talk to anyone there to find out why. Figured it was probably a combination of my age (late 50s/early 60s) plus having worked for lots of different companies, often taking several months off between jobs.Chinatown Thanks this.
