Ebaugh,
Check your pm's. You need 50 posts to pm but a mod can forward it to the other member until you reach that.

SR 20 near interlachen.
M&W I think -
If NOTHING else comes your way, go to the County School Board and sign up for relief school bus driver or yard man at the school bus depot. A couple of guys I went to CDL school with got their passenger endorsement doing this and one is driving Greyhound, the other for Orlando. They got pay, benes AND a homelife-an amazing combination in this industry.

My Advise to you is either wait till you turn 21 or just before to get your CDL or Find a job before you spend your money on school.
I Live in North Carolina, there are tons of truck companies and I couldn't get a job. Tow truck companies usually want 25yr old and towing experience, UPS, Fed Ex, Conway all 21, Dump truck companies want Dump truck experience, Local Delivery stuff like, Lowe's, home depot, HHGregg, Rent a Center, Aaron's, ect all want 21. And my dad drives local in a dump truck and his buddies are all local Owner Ops with extra tractors and couldn't get enough extra work to run me in there other trucks.
You have a couple things working against you as did I, your age and your lack of experience. Commercial Truck insurance is crazy for anyone under 21 and get much cheaper at 23 which is why some companies require 23.
Don't just give up give it all you got just find someone willing to hire you before you pay for school. I wish I had! I literally tried every company in North and South Carolina, I'm talking walking in with a resume and filling out an app in person and still nothing! Good Luck!

There is a female driver at Georgia Pacific, nice lady, started inside on the docks, then yard dogs, then driver. That's why I mentioned just getting a job there, then maybe moving up !!!!!

hey ebaugh, I feel ya. I am in the same boat. I've talked to alot of people around out here and even went out on a road test but then figured out I didn't have enough end dump experience. Seems that insurance for anyone under 21 is outrageous. My suggestion would be to get in your local phone book and call local companies, end dump etc and see what they'll say. Good luck hunting!

Go to the paper mill and try and get a job as a switcher. You will get more experience there, than anywhere while you are underage for interstate. I do not think local companies will hire you because, as mentioned above, their insirance rates will soar. I used to load at the papermill all the time, and I know thay have lots of yard dogs. It will also be a goo place to make contacts and talk to drivers. All the major carriers load there, and this will give you a feel of who you might want to work for in the future.
I wish you the best of luck.

C&W wants me to be 21. Ill call a few companies near me and see what they say. Ill ask them if they would hire me with no experience and being a student that just graduated from school. Hopefully driving a dump truck or something.

I looked in the yellow pages and there's about 60 different local small trucking companies within about a 30 mile radius within where i live. So hopefully after making a few calls I might be able to find something.
jtrnr1951 Thanks this.
